The show is also a commentary on the differences between Yinuo and her partner/protege/love interest Tian Enya, a spoiled rich 18 year old who has a completely different life than her. Both their age gap - Enya isn't familiar with the old school super hard platformers Yinuo is, she plays games for the story while Yinuo thinks you should watch a movie if you care about stories & wants to skip to the game play, but also their class differences - Enya being rich has all the time in the world to watch cutscenes, Yinuo has only the limited time after work to play games & she wants to skip to the parts where she gets to feel useful & powerful.
She also sacrifices her life for Enya at the end, forcing Enya to have to learn to play games her way to save her.

my runner up for #FavCharacterY who would be above Yuki if not for my lifelong love of King of Fighters is Lin Yinuo from "Pause! Let Me Check The Walkthrough First", a 30 year old underpaid, overworked office worker who falls off her balcony & gets reincarnated in an all female MMO world.
First, it's revealed that her reincarnation was a mistake, the game world is meant to be fantasy for 18 year olds. She refuses to accept a cheat power b/c the point is the grind.
She skips cutscenes, much to the chagrin of the 18 year old who becomes her partner.
She games the system in hilarious ways (muting the audio to knock out a sound based enemy instead of playing the rhythm game) & she's not above calling game support over & over until the Goddess listens to her complaints.

Also to expand on why I like Yuki, she's the Lois Lane/Mary Jane Watson to Kyo Kusanagi. She doesn't have powers, she's not a fighter, but that's okay, I think it's important sometimes for heroes to have "normal" partners who support them, especially women. Like King of Fighters has a ton of powerful female characters, they don't need to prove themselves on that front.
I think it's important to say that people with superpowers or fighters don't necessarily need their partner to have powers or be "special" to have a relationship with them. Like Kyo gets shipped with Athena a lot cuz she's in the game, she fights, she's powerful, she's a goddess & a Jpop idol. But Yuki is cool b/c she's none of those things & he still loves her & I like that.

I'm going to do a runner up also, but my #FavCharacterY is
Yuki Kushinada from King of Fighters, Kyo Kusanagi's girlfriend.
She started off as a joke (she's listed under Kyo's "cherished possessions" in his early profile) to acknowledge how surprisingly popular Kyo was with women, but her character caught on, they eventually cast a VA for her where 1500 women auditioned, 400 were KoF fans, and 16 were actually named Yuki themselves. She ended up in radio programs, CDs, illustrations, comics, etc... SNK even said what started out as a joke turned into a full fledged character.
KoF has a ton of great female fighters, but Yuki is the normal girl, existing as a testament to the strength of the female fanbase, one of which is me (& Kyo is my favourite KoF character).

@ami_angelwings Oh boy, here it is. Time travel #FavCharacterY is... Yuno Gasai, of "Future Diary".
Horror isn't my genre, I noped out after an episode. But from summaries, hey, what if Homura Akemi (from "Madoka") was, y'know, a psychopath instead? Also Yuno isn't just a yandere, she's the poster child for that topic whenever it comes up. Yet you kind of feel bad for her because her past was SO screwed up.
I'm not just voting for her because of the axe. Everything's FINE. #FavCharacterAtoZ

#FavCharacterYYugi Muto, the kid, not the ancient spirit he shares his body with. Y'know how the whole idea behind Lord of the Rings is it's the Hobbits who have to take up the burden? Even with the Pharaoh mostly running things that's Yugi, the decent kid surrounded by existential danger and rich assholes who never loses himself or his love for the game.
*lip wobble* He's just a little guy who likes cards and I want him to be happy.

I think I owe Yoshi this much. Not only have they helped my Marios and Luigis overcome impossible gaps through the noblest of sacrifices, but also we've bonded with my daughter playing Crafted World.
Plus, it can mean "alright!"

When I saw that people had posted their #FavCharacterY for #FavCharacterAtoZ I panicked that someone might beat me to my choice. I'm a dude, but in no way, shape, or form am I on Yorick Brown's level in the comic and tv show Y: The Last Man

@[email protected] For Y my favourite character is Yatima, from Greg Egan's novel Diaspora. Ve is a born digital citizen (an orphan, created without parents) whose journey is vast and vis truest love is mathematics and whose favoured self-representation is an African herdsman in a purple robe. Although it cannot last, the world ve is born into is a fantastic one that I would love to explore—think something like the last couple episodes of Pantheon, if you are familiar with that series. After natural catastrophe strikes the Earth in defiance of their future understanding of physics, humanity needs to understand why. Yatima, or rather many cloned instances of ver, join the diaspora seeking answers to this problem and travel across vast distances of space and eventually over many universes.
I got my pronouns from Yatima, just as several of my names came from (unspecified) characters and authors mentioned over the course of this game. And although Yatima verself is not one, ever since being introduced to the concept I have wanted to inhabit a variation on the gleisner robots shown in this story. #FavCharacterAtoZ, #FavCharacterY -
@ami_angelwings For #FavCharacterY I'm going with half of "the Bees," Yang Xiao Long, the "Y" in RWBY. Features in the 2nd best of the four original trailers, goes through one *heck* of a set of character arcs, and comes out the other side still punching and still quipping.
I don't know if I'll watch any (supposed/presumed) new RWBY content going forward but I enjoyed those first few seasons (volumes?) well enough, all things considered. Yang's a delight!
