Did you know 90% of leafy greens in Canada are imported -- and most of that from California?
A great way to support local farmers, get high quality fresh local food, and reduce the distance your food travels is to buy a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) share for the season.
I've been doing it for over 15 years. I love how it keeps me grounded in the seasons.

Ok fedifolk, hit me with your best recipes for celeriac and/or turnip. Our farm share included both (2 medium celeriac, 1 big turnip) and I've never cooked them before. Recipe search is an AI wasteland these days so I turn to the real people of Mastodon.

Waterloo region folks, the Fertile Grounds CSA is accepting more members. I’ve been getting fresh veggies, eggs, mushrooms, etc. from them for a few years. It’s good stuff. If you’d like to support local farmers and eat well, here’s where you can learn more. There’s also sliding scale share pricing so that folks with tight budgets can share, too.
If you sign up and feel so inclined, you can send them a note saying I sent you. I get a little bit of credit I can use to buy seedlings from them. :) https://share.sender.net/campaigns/7mYR/its-time-csa-registration-is-open #CSA @WaterlooEvents @waterlooregion #KitchenerWaterloo #FarmShare #KWAwesome

Today I’d like to share just some happy highlights from us picking up our #FarmShare for the week. Oh the #Chickens were so happy

Thanks to a glitch in the farm’s community supported agriculture customization platform, we got double the amount of sweet corn expected. That is twelve ears! Also more zucchini to add to my stock. 😹 Sprocket and Ketzeleh are obsessed with the leafy jackets corn wears but I read that they aren’t good for kitties so they only got teased with a quick sniff. #Cats #CatsOfMastodon #Ketzeleh #Sprocket #FarmShare #Veggies

Stage 1 of having a farm share: “What should I do with this particular vegetable?”
Stage 2: “I have a good recipe for this particular vegetable.”
Stage 3: “I know what some good techniques are for this category of vegetable.”Brought to you by the fact that we are at the tail end of our last farm share box, and we had a bunch of miscellaneous greens, including turnip greens that we’d never used before, so guess what? They’re all getting braised together.

Loads more fresh local tomatoes in this week’s CSA shipment! They’re among the best parts of this CSA. We also got a huge spaghetti squash, which will be fun. I really like spaghetti squash but never think to buy it.
