📚 boyfriend *finally* goes through his old hard drives and assembles the 'lost' original short stories I didn't have access to, and therefore couldn't bind as a surprise

I'm using this for my girlfriend's book. She requested OpenDyslexic, but decided this font was nicer to read when italicised (relevant for the author's notes on each chapter).

For some reason I am now typesetting my girlfriend's favourite 200k Weiss Kreuz fanfic from 2002. So I can case bind it for her as a gift.

#fanbinding question: howwww to cut stacks of paper so it looks nice and not a ragged mess? I have tried today with a rotary cutter, a bookbinding knife and a scalpel, and I’m not satisfied. Maybe practice will make perfect?

On a cheerful note, I stumbled onto a discord of #fanbinding, hobbiests who create volumes of handbound fanfiction. I do not really read or write fanfiction, nor do I bind books, but I can sure appreciate the artistry. Everything in that community is stunning!

Thread-bound book #fanbinding progress! Would you believe the printer printed everything out just as I wanted it on the first try? Tonight I folded and cut all the pages, plus covers. Tomorrow I will piece holes and sew it up!

Baby’s first #fanbinding experiment is starting to take shape. 🤞 I’m starting with a fic of my own and picked last year’s SXX Exchange fic, The Ravine of the World, because it has some length (8k) and is at least tangential to the theme of literacy and books. I still feel regret that Xiao Xingchen rejected the beautiful inkstones the Jin offered songxiao to tempt them to stay.
