  4. How do IT and data governance strategies impact the environment?

"The Climate Needs #FAIR and #FOSS: A #Sustainability Perspective on Research Data and Software Management" (Lecture Notes in Informatics)

    doi.org/10.18420/inf2025_92

"We argue that by implementing policies ensuring the re-use of data and code, research institutions enable digital objects — and, crucially, the hardware they are processed on — to be used more efficiently and for longer."

  6. 2+ years after publishing, have the FAIR Principles for Research Software (#FAIR4RS) been useful & usable? Learn about the results of a survey to understand this & to discuss next steps.

    Webinars (1 July):
    UTC 11:00-12:00 (unsw.zoom.us/meeting/register/)
    UTC 22:00-23:00 (unsw.zoom.us/meeting/register/)

  8. SWHIDs (SoftWare Hash IDentifiers ) are persistent identifiers #PIDs for software source code artifacts such as source code files, source trees, commits, and other objects typically found in version control systems.

📣Great news: The #SHWID now meets the #ISO standard.

    Congratulations 🙌 @swheritage

  10. Eric Jensen & I have a new paper out, based on a survey of research software funders, in a Sloan-funded research software policy project

  11. Hi attendees and @de_rse community.

Did you already participate in the survey? Still time to do so, deadline 2025-03-07. Results will be published one month later.

  12. We've now published the recording of our second principles for research software (#FAIR4RS) 2-year review webinar: youtu.be/iBtDm8BP05g

The first was also recorded, as youtu.be/Ex691O5Koe0

And our survey for the review itself where we ask you for feedback about the principles is bit.ly/FAIR4RS-2-year-review-s

  14. If you are using or have considered using the principles for research software (doi.org/10.15497/RDA00068), please help us understand what we got right or wrong, and what we should consider changing, as part of a 2-year review, by filling out bit.ly/FAIR4RS-2-year-review-s

  15. Do you think the principles for Research Software (doi.org/10.15497/RDA00068) are working? 2+ years after publishing, with over 500 people involved, we’re keen to understand if the principles have been useful & usable. If not, we’re asking the community what needs changing to make them work.

  17. We've been arguing for this for such a long time! One more call for #reproducibility in research: sciencedirect.com/science/arti. We could have saved a tonne of time of academics/researchers and publishers just put their data and models out instead of only results. #FAIR4RS #research #openscience

  19. @lnnrtwttkhn @adredish Spot on, science doesn't move in leaps and bounds, but small incremental steps, just like software development and as you say the technical solutions are there.

  21. Do you work on research at The University of Sheffield?

Could your data or software be unleashed and made more compliant with the FAIR or FAIR4RS principles?

Fancy some funds to do this?

Launching today is the **Unleash your data and software** and you can apply for an award of up to £5000 for a project to make your research data or software more visible and reusable.

  24. Is there anything different about the #FAIR principles for research software (#FAIR4RS, doi.org/10.15497/RDA00068) when working in an #HPC context?

I think the answer is no for findability and accessibility, but I'm less sure if this is true for interoperability and reusability.
