  1. "We have always been committed to supporting ... the long tail of collectives that are using #OpenCollective to make an impact in the world. In 2022 we began exploring what an β€˜exit to community’ would look like, placing the future of Open Collective in the hands of those who depend on it.

I truly believe that this is the only way to protect Open Collective’s mission so we decided to make it happen!"

  2. This database of community-owned software/service initiatives (spanning from Defector to a solar coop) is thought-provoking in a good way.

Given post-GReader/Evernote/etc. declining elite trust in VC-backed startups, I wonder if there's a funding-time playbook for (p)re-building trust through planned "in case of failure, break glass". #ExitToCommunity #e2c @daspitzberg

  11. At present, most of our commercial newsrooms are owned by foreign media empires like the Australian #NineEntertainment, which owns most of our newspapers via its holding in #Stuff.co.nz, or shadowy "#PrivateEquity" companies like #OaktreeCapital who control a number of #NZ TV channels via its ownership in #Mediaworks. Many of these companies are looking to sell some or all of their NZ media "assets" because they're not particularly profitable. Could they #ExitToCommunity as #Scoop.co.nz did?
