  1. How to start a (truly) independent podcasting collective?

Version 21 Imagine you are a part of an open podcasting collective, divided into podcasting projects. Each project has its own niche topic (data law, IP-Law, constitutional law etc), but all projects are aligned by the same mission (e.g. enriching the discussion around Law & Political Economy). Main motivations for starting such a science based podcasting network are personalizing your abstract ideas, building a (political) movement, inspiration in times of right-wing backlash, having some […]

  5. "This week on #ReimaginingTheInternet, Nathan Schneider (@ntnsndr) explains how poor democracy on major social media platforms has eroded our actual democratic governance, and how practicing democracy in everyday ways can teach us how to practice it well again.

Nathan Schneider wrote the fantastic #GovernableSpaces, out now on UC Press and freely available online."

  10. I got my copy of #GovernableSpaces by @ntnsndr!*

Yesterday I read that the absence of explicit governance produces a power vacuum where feudal barons emerge. Serfs pursue change by threatening to "cancel" the baron.

Today I woke up to yet another fedi admin burnout message mentioning dysfunctional #FediMeta call-out practices. We ask individuals to shoulder too much.

(*) The packet mysteriously got lost somewhere in Helsinki for a month. Clearly a failed conspiracy by the Bilderberg Group. /s

  30. Just started reading #GovernableSpaces, by Nathan Schneider. An exploration of the intersection of democracy and online communities.

His thesis engages the idea that we need to practice our democracy muscles, and online communities can be designed to serve this function. With impacts both in improving our online lives, and also our capacity for self-governance offline.
