  1. Last night I got #GuildWars2 running on my potato #Ubuntu laptop and it ran pretty well on low settings, and looked decent as well. Completed my daily Wizard's Vault, and screwed around plunking away at the weekly. Nothing too major.

I also did some more questing in Kylong Plains in #EverQuest2 and dinged 70. My highest level character to date! Quest rewards are mostly gear I can't use for another 2 levels, so that is an incentive to keep going.

  2. I've gotten to level 69 on a monk in #EverQuest2 and I am questing in Kylong Plains at the moment. Part of what is driving me on pushing forward is to see the level of improvement in zone design as the expansions go past.

Right now I'm in 2007 and Kylong seems a bit better than some of the earlier zones. But let's be honest, this content is close to 20 years old and surely the more recent content is much better. At least that's what I'm hoping.

  3. Am traveling this week and gaming on my potato Dell Latitude running #Ubuntu. It runs #EverQuest2 okay (on balanced perf) and we'll see how it handles #GuildWars2 (since I figured out how to login with my non-Steam account just now).

I really appreciate steam as it does a great job of “just working" for a lot of these windows games, and keeps me from messing with wine and bottles and all of that nonsense.

  4. I love that #Everquest2 still comes out with new Pride familiars every year. I get them for all my characters.

  5. So evidently one troubadour is never enough, and for some reason this time I want to take it slow, in a game I've played for the past 9 years and for two years back when it was originally launched.

So I'm trying to explore more, take my time finishing quests vs rushing to get those "dings", and maybe find a new appreciation for elements of the game.

  6. @stargrace I found the issue. It's an oversight on my part for not handling when the #EverQuest2 APIs are offline (which they have been for multiple days now).

    Pushing a fix shortly.

  7. I am appreciative for the #DayBreakGames census REST API--which exposes character and achievement data for among other things #EverQuest2 It allows connecting to achievements earned during a play session.

But holy crap is it unstable. I've got integration tests that hit it nightly, and tests that run as part of PR merges. There's a 50/50 chance that there will be issues calling it. And this is with proper code handling 429s and 500s.

    So frustrating!

  8. As promised, hot and fresh on the first day of the new year, my 2025 gaming summary:

    cdn.tempusgameit.com/summaries

'25 was mostly a #WorldOfWarcraft year, although there were hotspots for #NewWorld and #EverQuest2 in there as well.

I'm mostly a weekend gamer too, but I find it amusing that Wed was the third most played day of the week, but I have no idea why.
