  1. Looking to hear from #editors what their preferred #editingtool is. Which of these is your favorite to work with, and why? What is the advantage of one over the other? Is there a true #industrystandard or does it come down to personal or #production choice?

  2. A related post of mine, on language reform and prescriptivism:

"By oversimplifying the nature and aims of prescriptivism, we invite confusion, category errors, and semantic muddles"

  4. My GOD the new Outlook that I was forced to "upgrade" to is nightmarish. Can anyone recommend a PC desktop #EmailApp that works for you professionally? A really robust one?

  5. So #Microsoft just forced me to "upgrade" my #OfficeSuite, and it is so irksome to have all these new flashy bells and whistles thrust upon me and none of the actual improvements that I could have suggested if they'd asked.

Like, why is there still no ability to personalize the default view in Word so I don't have to reset the zoom to 125% every day?

But thank the editing gods that at least I figured out how to turn off that miserable "#ModernComments feature.

  6. Hi, all! I've just heard about a terrific ghost/editing opportunity with a Black writer who is very well connected and has at least two books he needs help with. Any #editor / #ghostwriter in here, preferably #BIPOC, who is familiar with race theory and the hip-hop/rap scene want to be connected? Should also be LA based. Please DM me!

  7. Sixth (and, I think, last): This one's for editors. When you're working on a project, stick to the dictionary preferred by your style guide. Chicago likes M-W 11th Collegiate.

When you're writing for yourself, use as many as you like. The issue is, they won't all agree. And trying to find "The Answer" is difficult, when sources are all acceptable (Collins, Oxford, Webster's New World, Encarta, Random House . . .).

    Enough. Go enjoy #NationalGrammarDay

If you don't already use quoteinvestigator.com to verify sources, I strongly suggest it as a reliable resource. It'll keep you from misattributing pithy (or at least interesting) words to people who never said them, and validate you if you already know but are caused to doubt.

  10. I really love the editing part of my job as an editor. As for networking and onboarding new clients... well, that's when #impostersyndrome rears its ugly head! Anyone else? #editingcommunity #amediting #freelancelife

  11. #ChicagoManualOfStyle solves the world's problems:

    Q. You wouldn’t write “lineeditor,” so why “#copyeditor”? Please help before my head explodes!

#CMoS takes on this thorny issue in their January Q&A.

  12. Howdy! I have a client who needs a #ghostwriter for his Hardy Boys-esque YA novel. He has the story all sketched out, needs someone to help craft it. Ping me if you know anyone.

  14. Grrr. I did not need Toggl Track to refuse to work on a Monday morning. I like to track my time when I am #BookEditing. It helps me manage my #Author clients' expectations.

It's back up and running now, but I didn't need a technology-is-not-your-friend moment this morning.

  15. I deactivated the bird account last night after Musk reinstated TFG's account—a last straw for me.

It's hard to accept change. I get that. But I think Twitter has run its course for me and I'm glad I opened this account last April.

I'm ready to get used to new social media environments rather than expecting them to suddenly transform into the old ones. And I hope to connect with other wordsmiths here on Mastodon.
