It's really sad when you're looking forward to play a game and it turns out not only bad but not fun at all.
I really tried to give Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince a fair chance. I played 30+ hours. But it doesn't get better. After 30 minutes you've seen everything the game has to offer as it seems.
I guess I have to abandon it.

The random dungeons are another feature that I feel were really half-baked. It's just waves of randomly generated monsters and as I said, the combat isn't compelling. I feel like the random dungeons generated in #DragonQuestMonstersTheDarkPrince are closer to what they should have had which are closer to the procedurally generated dungeons going back to #DragonQuestMonsters Gameboy days.
Overall, it's frustrating because there is quite a bit to the game that I have enjoyed.
But also, it's interesting that among the Treasures you can collect is references to Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 which never left Japan. I still wish they'd go back, translate, and release some of those games over here the next time they're due for a remake.

Growing up, I always preferred #DragonQuestMonsters to #Pokemon at a gameplay and aesthetic level. However, the latter series was much larger culturally to the extent that DQM has no releases in the West for 13 years.
In 2023 they released Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, which I have played and enjoyed. Meanwhile, I kind of dropped off of the Pokémon franchise. For people who have played both, how does it stack up against the current generation of Pokémon games?

After hearing the news about Akira Toriyama, I think I might go and play the Dragon Quest Monsters Joker series again. They were my main encounter with Toriyama's work, cause I never got past like 15 or so episodes of Dragon Ball (original, not Z. Didn't get to Z). I started Joker 1 aaaaages ago, got stuck cause I was a kid, started Joker 2, got stuck again for the same reason. I never finished either of those 2 games. I figured I wouldn't get stuck anymore and could actually finish them now. And having heard about Toriyama's death, it kind of prompted me to give these games another try.
Although I can't promise I'll finish the Joker games even now. Not because I'd get stuck, but because I find it difficult to stick to a game nowadays. But I'll start and I'll see.
