After the last decade of dependence, missed opportunities and betrayal, here's a short extract from Lockhart of Carnwath's memoirs of the Union. It was Lockhart who named and shamed Burns' Parcel of Rogues, and uncovered the mostly quite paltry amounts they received for selling out Scotland.
Here he speaks of one of the principal villains, the Earl of Stair.
Very little has changed in the last 300+ years.

Sausage Fingers is currently being held hostage at the Pier Arts Centre in #Orkney. He'll be released upon payment of the King's Ransom, which is currently set at £399,000. This is a bargain given all the value he provides to the country.

'The meeting of Commissioners' - a #collage inspired by betrayal and my reading about the #ParcelOfRogues who sold out the sovereignty of the people of #Scotland in 1707.
It strikes me that the political shenanigans going on now are not much different to the sort of thing that went on was back then. Everyone has agendas and most are self-serving. Very few people involved in politics actually have any real guts or integrity.

This book I found in a charity shop provides great context to #Lockhart's memoirs of the #Union and the people involved.
The 4th Duke of Hamilton was a right two-faced slimeball. He had a legitimate claim to the throne of #Scotland, but when he realised no-one would support it he decided the Union was his next best option (lots of land in England). He betrayed his Jacobite friends many times over but managed to keep stringing them along.

My expectation of improvement of anything in the "U"K🇬🇧 before a #GE is: Zero; after a #GE: microscopically above Zero (assuming it's not another #ERGTory majority.)
Only a reboot of dissolution-sized proportions will truly fix anything, long term, IMO.

His memoirs could have got him killed when they leaked. He did time in jail for fomenting violence and died from injuries sustained in a duel.
