  1. I've been dusting off my #ScottishIndependence canvassing app, to see how hard it would be to get it working if a new #IndyRef did actually happen.

It's suffered much less bit rot than I thought. It's mostly ready to go, there are still some issues to fix.

  2. Am reading Jackson’s Journey again - still so very funny and relevant.

Imagine if Scotland had gained independence as well as stayed in the EU .

If Scotland ever gets independence and rejoins the EU maybe I can look forward to the Euro after all

  4. Andy #Burnham's coronation as UK Prime Minister is still a fortnight away. But already he has done a very thorough job of alienating Scotland & Wales.

It's not just crassness about #indyref. #TheGuardian's Wales correspondent Bethan McKernan notes a consistent pattern of missteps on devolution and finance. theguardian.com/politics/2026/

These are all basic issues of how the UK is now structured. The pitfalls are clearly signed. Burnham is not paying attention to 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.

  5. "You'll have had your democracy, jock."

English bloke blocks #ScottishParliament's mandate to hold referendum on independence. Again. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/

Scotland proclaimed the principle of popular sovereignty in the 1320 #DeclarationOfArbroath. Seven centuries later #AndyBurnham is the latest wannabe-leader of England to uphold the English tradition of #ParliamentarySovereignty.

#Burnham wears cool t-shirts, for an ageing dad. But he's not cool with democracy.

  6. Don’t let them block our #indyref #mandate - Believe in #Scotland

    - The people have spoken - The #Parliament has voted.

    - Now Is The Time to put Scotland’s future in Scotland’s hands.

    - The #Celtic Exit has begun: Scotland, #Wales and #NorthernIreland are now all governed by parties with the goal of leaving the #UK.

Sign the Action-Petition and all your elected representatives and the Prime Minister will be emailed to tell them to agree to the Scottish Parliament demand for a new independence referendum.

  8. So what you're saying is that Brexit and Scottish Independence are not done deals no matter what dirty tricks you pull or how much you talk over people in an imperial manner?

  9. 1918: Ireland elects a majority of Sinn Féin MPs, 73/105, pledged to set up an independent parliament. Westminster ignores Dáil Éireann, then bans it.

2026: #Scotland elects yet another majority of pro-indy MSPs, who vote by 72—55 for a 2nd #indyref. Just as they promised. Within hours, an anonymous Downing Street spokesman says "no". A faceless no.

After 108 years, #UKgov still doesn't get this democracy thing.

Can anyone go to London SW1 with a large #cluebat?

  10. @petealexharris @ChrisMayLA6 I believe we did have the slogan in Scotland for shopping (after the 2014 #indyref) "If it has a Jack put it back". Though, I suspect that doesn't fit the 'Buy British' concept 😉

  11. Caught between the UK and EU: What’s next for young Scots?

So much of Scotland’s history has been forged by its relationship to England and by one central question: union or independence?

Brexit has given the independence movement new momentum, and with Scottish elections coming up in May, the question is back at the centre of the debating table.

  12. #DouglasAlexander has been Secretary of State for Scotland since September 2025, having previously held the role from 2006 to 2007.

In his first term, in 2007, Dougie insisted that the only way to achieve Scottish independence is for a party to win a majority in a Holyrood election, and then a majority in an Indyref.

Now his #LabourParty insists that there will be no referendum, despite a pro-independence majority.
