  1. @softicecreamlesley I felt that what you shared was incredibly important.
Would it be alright if I introduced our exchange on a Japanese platform called "note"?
I’d like to translate it into Japanese so that more people can understand what is happening.
I hope they will realize that true respect means trusting others to manage their own lives independently, rather than shouting "Dangerous!" based on one's own discomfort.

  2. @softicecreamlesley that sounds like a truly terrifying experience, Lesley. I’m so glad your injuries didn’t get any worse.
I’ve had plenty of dangerous encounters with passersby myself, so I can really relate to what you went through.
And thank you for your kind words. Regardless of whether someone has a disability or not, they deserve to be respected as an independent individual. It seems there are still many people who don't understand that.

  3. In Japan, people frequently say "Dangerous" while I walk with a white cane, yet in my entire life, I have rarely been in true danger. The few times I actually was, the warnings were polite and calm. I wish people would realize that saying "Dangerous!" is not a substitute for a genuine, helpful warning.

  4. As I passed a small swamp, a tremendous splash echoed. Thinking as a blind, it might be a shark, I jokingly told my caregiver, "Let's escape!" Dark clouds and rumbling thunder chased us home. Ten minutes later, a downpour began. We were lucky to escape it, and lucky not to meet a bear--just another day in Japan. These small moments are what give us the strength to overcome difficult times.

  5. (continued)
As a result, I have become so anxious that I am unable to attend my regular checkups for cancer recurrence, and the mental impact has been severe.

I feel that reports of sexual violence against disabled people in Japan are only the tip of the iceberg. Many experiences never become visible, never become news, and never receive meaningful responses.

  6. I believe I have replied to all the welcoming messages on my first post. If I happened to miss yours, it was purely by accident!

When I created this account, I was struggling with many challenges as a blind woman in Japan, and I was looking for ideas to solve them. However, I am now so happy to be connecting with such wonderful people here.

Perhaps I just needed a place where I could be accepted for who I am. Thank you all so much.

  7. (Continued...)
I looked for a place where I can share my ideas on how we recognize our society. I am so happy to find this community. It is such a relief to find that I am not alone in these thoughts, and that these ideas are already alive and evolving here. It feels like I’ve finally found a place where I can breathe and think alongside others who share this vision. I look forward to learning from all of you.

  8. This is my first post on Disabled-social. I'm Hiro from Japan. I came here because I'd like to meet people and know more about global ideas for people with disabilities. Unfortunately, the Japanese government doesn't fully accept the Human Rights Act, and that creates so many problems and ignorance for people having difficulties. I am a blind woman who lives in a northern place in Japan.
