@ianRobinson Use the hashtag #AlphabetGemini instead so that corporations dont pollute the timeline of the gemini web. Corporations doesnt have right of way on the fediverse.

@TimMaddog This is a great example of how words are not neutral and how framing manipulates us.
Dont accept the words given to us from authorities. Always question their framing!

We need to create better systems for storing on clouds. Today we only have topdown systems, but this is not how information is structured. Information structure is interconnected.
If I store a chinese song in one location, I should be allowed to let it be associated with both chinese and music. I shouldnt be forced into choosing what it is most related to. If I want to find a song, I should be able to find it just from accessing it as something related to chinese.

@aral You keep saying something along the lines of:
> In unchained/free software there's an expectation from the developer that people have to spend time to learn software. But think about the brain surgeon, he certainly dont have the time to do that!
I think it is worth exploring further. Could you flesh out your experience with these attitudes. And perhaps point out how it impacts specific projects?

@rek2 Fight for control over social facilities on the web🗣️✊
The control over social facilities that empower how we socialize, organize and share.
We do this through spread and collaborating facilities such as peertube, mastodon and xmpp/matrix.

Self hosting should be as easy as using apps on a phone. It really shouldnt be hard. We are missing a huge opportunity to secure freedom. And I dont understand why this doesnt get more attention.
This is one of the most significant things we can do to spread power on the web.

We dont challenge the language in the digital space. We dont challenge concepts, we dont challenge established analogies, we dont challenge excessive branding. We take what is given to us from the holy techemperors. Because to challenge their language is to, challenge reality itself.

A tool should be customizable and interoperable with other tools, you should be able to understand a tool. Otherwise it is not empowering, it is not free.
A tool is not free if it is too heavy.

@shalien Hi Shalien:) Welcome to the intercommune!
If you are interested in discussing the politics of the digital, you can use the hashtag #DigitalIssues.

Heaviness makes a tool become less interoperable, less tinkerable, less understandable and usage drains more resources.
Development of high resource tools requires more financiation. Its at least a full time job to maintain it and further development.
Much of the problem is that todays operating systems are designed around high resource tools. Low resource tools are often seen as technical.
We need low resource tools that aims to be part of a toolbox.
-
What we need most of all right now is people who challenge #technojargon
I rarely see people who do this. Even in the "radical" #foss communities. In actuality, foss communities doesn't challenge anything, they embrace the established language. In #DigitalIssues there are no radicality.

From an idealistic or individualistic point of view, why should we choose open formats?
Should I keep using mp3 files? If not what should I pick.
Are there any debates around what we should expect from open formats?

@aral By the way, nowadays I usually refer to servers as gardens. I believe this will make owning a garden sound a lot less technical and a lot more fun. It would also create expectations of ease of use.
As example, freedombox and yunohost are aiming to be such garden operating systems. And Pioneer Freedombox is a garden.
