While I find that a mature stance, I can see various exceptions from this rule:
"I'm going to go and associate with that person and make my own mind up."
Never talk to Nazis or Russian bots. You're giving them a platform.
The same holds true for agents provocateurs.Another category to avoid are #DarkTriads, a particular kind of toxic people (alas, about 1/14,) with whom there is no constructive way to sozialize and many of whom are emotionals parasites.
Criminals, too.

I have been looking at #DarkTriads for some years now (on and off.)
They dominate most people's lives. It is so amazing, that even psychogists sometimes have not heard of them.If you start with my oldest linked article (a short one,) many things will fall into place.
