Zhou Maoshu Admiring Lotuses (mid-17th century) by #Japanese artist Kaihō Yūsetsu (1598–1677). A bearded scholar here is recognizable as the Northern Song-dynasty philosopher Zhou Maoshu. A leading figure in early neo-Confucian thought, Zhou wrote, among other texts, the short essay “On the Love of the Lotus”, in which he describes the lotus as a “man of virtue,” in contrast to the “hermitlike” chrysanthemum and the “aristocratic” peony.

In my first introductory post (on the server I briefly used before joining this one) I wrote “I like to joke that I’m a Judaeo-Confucian (although if a group of such people existed I’d probably join it).”
So… any other Judaeo-Confucians out there?
