  1. long ago I read an in-depth tech article about the development of an MMO which I was addicted to for a while (Dark Age of Camelot aka #DAoC) and they went into detail about how sticking with perfectly usable built-in Linux tools saved them immense amounts of dev time and money when scaling what was essentially a MUD into a massively multiplayer real-time 3D game. between that and seeing how Proxmox largely follows the same strategy with great success, it's left an impression on me about premature optimization, at least in the sysadmin domain. I still find it hard to resist when coding or doing many other things irl.

  2. And number 5 or 6? on my MMO wandering list, Dark Age of Camelot

  3. 2025 jour 1, Tiko apprend les bases ⚔️ #DAoC

  4. @massivelyop #Valheim was the first game to successfully drag me out of the #MMO genre since I stared with #DAoC. Now I both build and decorate my houses. Until a studio can figure out how to incorporate this kind of building into an MMO, I'm having a hard time finding the urge to go back.

  5. @rodneylives I'm playing #Ultima7 via #Exult #DOSbox engine. ^_^

Ultima Online is still online, and the new devs (#DAoC devs) are still maintaining it, and releasing content (though I don't follow it). And then there are the private servers.

EA is, evil. Haha. There is absolutely no logical reason why they are holding on to the #Ultima trademark. Every attempt they did to create a new game based on it, were cancelled (those without the Origin team involved). Those that launched failed and eventually closed (like “Lord of Ultima“ (2010)).

The most recent Ultima-related release is #UnderworldAscendant (2018). Unfortunately, EA only licensed the lore and characters, but not the trademark. This prevented them from carrying the name Ultima. It's practically “Ultima Underworld III: Ascendant”.

If they release their hold from the trademark, or let Richard Garriott work on it again, for sure it will generate a buzz and create a new generation of Ultima fans.

By the way, I created a list of Ultima games here: im.youronly.one/yuki/kb/timeli

    Might be useful ^_^

  6. Je retente le coup, quelques mois après le premier appel, y a des anciens de #DAOC ici? Genre vieux vieux de 2001 à 2006 sur serveurs EU/FR? 🤔
