Eine unabhängige Bestätigung dafür steht aber noch aus.

"The special, smooth aerodynamical shape of the spacecraft allows it to function as a measure of the density in very low Earth orbit. Every time the elliptical orbit passes through the perigee, it loses apogee height. The atmospheric drag on the object can be inferred from the altitude difference right until reentry. The design of most spacecraft is too complicated to make accurate measurements, but the Venera descent craft’s nearly spherical shape does allow it. This turns its reentry into an ‘accidental’ reentry science experiment."

@dahie That tracking shown on stream seems broken. I still have https://www.n2yo.com/satellite/?s=6073 open in a tab (site is overloaded atm) and #cosmos482 seems to be above England at 122km height, descending.

Watched the previous pass of #cosmos482 over Europe. Saw nothing in the already bright sky. The next one is in ~ 80 minutes. Maybe the next one is the last one and the spacecraft is re-entering.

Well this could be awkward, the latest ESA prediction (thanks @ai6yr) of the reentry of Cosmos-482 puts its track pretty close to the Murchison Radio Observatory in the WA outback. 😬 🌠

Yikes, a lot of the predicted path is over land. ± 10 mins before the predicted reentry time, it's entirely over land. This was designed to deal with the high temperatures of Venus entry, so remaining intact and impacting is the likely scenario. Let's just hope that it lands somewhere unpopulated, but we still learn a lesson.
