  2. #Reentry debris has fallen on both private and public property around the world multiple times since 2021. Trunk debris from the Crew 7 mission to the #ISS has landed in #NorthCarolina, and fragments from the Crew 1 mission landed in #NewSouthWales, #Australia. Similarly, debris from the Axiom 3 mission landed in #Saskatchewan, #Canada.

In 2025, 4,500 objects launched, meaning 20% of all objects launched into space since the 1950s were launched last year. theconversation.com/falling-sp

  5. #Starfall is #SpaceX's mass-produced #reentry vehicle designed to autonomously transport valuable customer experiments and other payloads 📦 safely back from space 🌌 to Earth, including for in-orbit manufacturing. Starfall is 0.75 meters tall with a diameter of 3.1 meters, weighing approximately 2,100 kilograms, and capable of carrying 1,000 kilogram of payload. It is designed to be carried on #Starship flights.

  6. Kentucky’s first inmate reentry campus is more than a symbolic policy move. It reflects a bigger belief that public safety depends not only on incarceration, but on what happens after release.
Can structured reentry actually reduce repeat crime?

Whether or not the #HeatShield worked, there was nothing I could do. There’s so much we didn’t model correctly on entry. There was a point—there’s something that I feel that I am not ready to say to the public yet

  9. Loved the footage from the ESA control room in the Netherlands too. The European Service Module of Artemis II has performed admirably by all accounts and is due to separate from the crew module in about 9 minutes.

  10. RE: stefanbohacek.online/@stefan/1

#Spacecraft are designed to be as un-aerodynamic as possible to maximise drag and help them slow down.

This deceleration during #reentry can be extremely harsh. A shock wave will envelop the spacecraft, creating air temperatures of 10,000°C 🌡️ or more – about twice the temperature of the surface of the #Sun.

The #Artemis I #HeatShield ablation during re-entry was much larger than expected. Large chunks of material separated from the heat shield in some places.

  11. #Artemis laser communications 📶 system : “We got 20 gigabytes down in a little more than 45 minutes. That’s orders of magnitude more than we get via our S-band telemetry system”.
#Toilet 🚽 : Engineers have ruled out ice buildup where the vent line ejects wastewater into space. Some of the chemistry may be creating debris of some kind clogging a filter.

#Orion’s big test is yet to come with the fiery 🔥 #reentry through Earth’s atmosphere on Friday.

So far, it’s looking like the rocket and spaceship needed for a lunar landing are getting there for #NASA. The biggest remaining piece of the architecture is the Human Landing System.
