  1. Maynooth is 45 min from Dublin city by commuter rail and might be my favorite photowalk in the country: an ivy-covered university campus, a ruined castle, and fields of wildflowers, all walkable from the station.

Howth on the DART gets you cliff walks and a ferry to Ireland's Eye for birding.

Galway, two and a half hours west, has a river running straight through a university town that turns red with ivy in autumn. Full train guide: travel.sidewalksafari.com/irel

  11. Ah, internet is back in the town! Yesterday we were thrown back to the dark ages when the shop could only accept cash, the bottle return machine was hopelessly lost and at the hostel we were forced to talk to each other! #TheHorror

Now I’ll be able to show a bit of #Inishbofin !

  16. Slowly getting into the rhythm of #travel, unfortunately it’s only a week long ‘taster’ of #Ireland. Never been before properly and I already know I should return for a longer trip.

Today: the ferry to Inishbofin island. That may be a tautology, I suspect Inish to mean Island (confirm?). Knowing the wonderfully strange film The Banshees of Inishirin…

    Now, off to the ferry!
