I mean, this is a little my fault, I missed that the board requires 2🤯 8 pin CPU power cables on top of the normal ATX cable and the PCIe cable for USB devices. So I need to get a second CPU cable.
I remember when I got a 8x instead of a 4x and the Manual said "only needed if overclocking". Like are MoBos trying to compete with GPUs? Now I understarnd why people are asking for 1200-2000w PSUs. FK

But wait! There's more!
On the next boot the NICs are gone and the system won't post if the DVD drive is plugged in.
So after 4 hours of testing and UEFI settings the final issue is...... not enough power to the mother board! If there's more then 2 PCIe cards are plugged in, anything on the PCIe bus will just not work right.

I have a librebooted Lenovo T400 laptop which I picked up on Ebay a few years ago. I went to turn it on for the first time in a few weeks and, to my great disappointment, the screen did not turn on. I did some research and determined that the culprit could be the RAM. The laptop came to me with a spinning hard drive and 4 GB of RAM (2×2). I replaced the hard drive with a solid state drive and doubled the RAM to 8 GB (4×4). The laptop’s screen powered on when I removed one of the new RAM sticks. I got rid of the broken RAM and re-inserted one of the original 2 GB sticks of RAM (so we now have 6 GB total) while waiting for a new order of two 4 GB sticks. I also ordered new case screws since I have a few missing screws and two of the screws that were holding the palm rest seem to not fit correctly. At least it works, I suppose.

I had to buy case-fans for my current computer, which I built back in August 2020. I have had issues with the fans rotating askew and making an unpleasant noise. I had already replaced two before one of my replacement fans started to go. In February, I fixed the replacement fan by punching the top of my computer case. Unfortunately, the punch solution became unreliable on the morning of October 26, 2024. Having work to do, I unplugged the offending fan. I think I can harvest case fans from my previous desktop PC, which I built in 2011.

Fulcrum looking fire rn 🔥
Just gave it a good clean and repositioned the external CPU fan from the rear of the cooler to the front. It blocks the RAM a little but it still looks good, especially from a front angle.
The case has its quirks but it’s good value for money, especially with the included RGB fans and RGB hub. I added a rear RGB fan to help exhaust heat out the rear of the case.
I’m curious what the bottleneck of my build is. Maybe I’ll run some stress tests one of these days.

I love this keyboard so much! Just look at it!
This is easily the best mechanical keyboard I’ve ever used. It’s a Keychron V5 Max QMK/VIA mechanical keyboard that’s fully customizable and easily swappable between use with Windows or MacOS. I really wanted a 98% keyboard so it doesn’t take up as much room as a full sized keyboard, but I wanted the main keyboard, the number pad, and the arrow keys to still have comfortable enough spacing. This fits the bill perfectly.
It comes with OSA (OEM Spherical Angled) Profile keycaps that feel wonderful against my paws, forgoing those hard raised edges on standard OEM Profile keycaps that I was never a fan of. The RGB lights under each key are an absolute necessity for any queer gaymer.
For a mechanical keyboard it’s pretty quiet too. It comes with Gateron Jupiter Red switches that have the right amount of give without being too clacky. For me at least.
Very excited to use it with my new computer and even with my old lappy. :drgn_happy_blep:

I’m going to build a computer for the first time ever. My concern for the computer’s long term performance, ability to be upgraded, and inability to enjoy PC games has left me with few options. By building it myself, I can cut out what I don’t need and focus on the things I do need. I might even save a buck in the process compared to buying something ready made. Like a model kit for tech nerds.
I brought this up to my mom and she nearly had a heart attack. Too many terrible experiences with windows computers to even entertain the idea. Maybe it’ll be different building it myself, knowing what I know now, and taking common sense precautions online.
So do tell. What are your recommendations or words of advice?

For example, one of the top fans on my case is becoming a bit off-kilter. Once in a while (maybe once every 30-40 start-ups), it will make an unpleasant noise. When this happens, I bring all the knowledge I gained from building the computer together for a solution.
Punch the top of the case once and the issue is resolved. This is what we call an expert solution.

My next purchase is probably going to be some sort of Small computer to replace my Mintbox 2... which I love as a "run all the time with low power usage" mini fanless PC running Linux Mint... but is aging. The front runner is the System76 Meerkat8 base model... but my husband points out that I could probably find a cheaper mini-ATX 'with normal PC-sized RAM' from other manufacturers... the problem is I cannot seem to find any main-line manufacturers that allow me to purchase without Windows preinstalled.
The next one I've seen is the Microforum NAB6. Today and this weekend will involve a lot of scouring of Tom's Hardware and any other places that You, The Internet, send me to, Probably loudly/harshly.

I opened Steam because I am purchasing at least one visual novel while it is on sale. Steam prompted me to ask whether I wanted to participate in the Steam hardware survey. I said yes. I did my part to represent EndeavourOS. But what about my specs?
- OS: EndeavourOS
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core processor (3.60 GH)
- RAM: 32 GB
- Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 SUPER
- VRAM: 4 GB
I built my computer in 2020 and decided to go for a budget video card, but I have not had any issues since I have not done anything to tax it. My computer originally had 16 GB of RAM but I upgraded to 32 in 2021.
