Dehydrate until crisp, rehydrate in #Cointreau (other spirits are available), dip in melted chocolate, leave to dry. Savour every moment.

Black Magic cake is #baking right now, two 9 inch pans lined with parchment, buttered and floured.
When those come out, I'll drizzle them with #Cointreau and then leave them to cool in the pans for 10 or 15 minutes. Then, turn them out onto racks to cool completely.
If I'm still in the mood, I'll make the orange curd (blood oranges) and let that cool as well.
Tomorrow, I think, will be assembling the cake and making the #ganache.
Remember those candied blood oranges? Decoration.

The earliest recipes for the #Sidecar indeed list it as equal parts (and #Calvados being a #brandy, I see it as a valid substitution). Over time that recipe changes ratios a bit. I have settled on one that is 4 parts brandy, 2 parts #Cointreau, 1 part lemon juice. -

Making notes for a brief passage I'll be writing on louching in spirits, a.k.a. the ouzo effect — i.e. spirits turning cloudy when diluted with water.
Getting sidetracked though by reading about Cointreau (which louches) and thinking I could really go for some of that right about now.
Did not know until now that it's made from a sugar beet based alcohol, but I guess I ought to have guessed given its French roots.
