My latest blog post… “Is this the end of #CityEngine as we know it? (2026.0 and the #Python 3 era)”
-
Looks like my company's threads account is fediverse enabled now! Follow @gd3duk for updates on our new #ArcGIS #CityEngine #youtube content for all your #3D procedural modelling needs 😀 (and yes my video editing skills need some work!)

Looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and making new ones at the Esri UK Annual Conference tomorrow! I'm always open to a discussion about #3DGIS, #urban and #rural #digitaltwin and of course #CityEngine. GD3D® is helping local authorities and private clients with project support and knowledge transfer to create digital twins for #geospatial and #gameengines. #planning #architecture #geodesign #unrealengine #twinmotion #procedural

I'll be attending the #American #Planning Association National Conference in #Minneapolis 13th-16th. If you're around and want to chat about #CityEngine #3D #digitaltwin and #planning come find me at the #ViewPro booth #NPC24 :) https://www.planning.org/conference/

I'm looking at releasing this around the EsriUK Annual Conference.... it's not just a tool but a framework for adding your own scripts to... basically make your own script and add it to the interface #CityEngine Pro Tools #geodesign #gis

So after a couple of weeks of
#metaquest
3 ownership. I am now at the stage of wanting more. This seems to be a great device for client/stakeholder engagement with 3D models. Going through workflows now from #ArcGIS #CityEngine to #Twinmotion and then on to the quest.... -
Latest post about making iconic/hero buildings using #ArcGIS #CityEngine : https://www.geoplanit.co.uk/?p=6172 #esri #GIS #geospatial #3D #3DGIS #procedural

In Nottingham (UK) today for 3 days teaching #cityengine to a lovely client. Invariably we will discuss #gameengines and #digitaltwins #geodesign and #3D #GIS 😀
-
@AnserGIS This is a very brief overview currently... #ArcGIS #CityEngine Pro Tool https://gd3d.co.uk/cept/

My #ArcGIS #CityEngine project is coming on a bit... Not sure whether to call it power or pro tools... #procedural #gis #3D #GIS

Best start to the week. #CityEngine #training client emails me after having a training session with the words "our team really enjoyed it and found it incredibly useful". I love sessions where it doesn't feel like formal training more like a fun discussion. This one we had lots of laughter too.
-
Onward to more #CityEngine training for a client in #manchester! Long time since I've had to do this 😀

CW: Animated GIF for illustration of toot about my #CityEngine tool...
my helper tool is coming along nicely. Basically custom #python scripts under a nice GUI for common tools and settings I need in my project work with #ArcGIS #CityEngine
-
Used #chatGPT again today to help me further consolidate a collection of #cityengine #python scripts I made (wrapped in a GUI). Providing I am specific in my questions I find this a much better approach than searching stack overflow and the like still. I get it's not great at all things but this is exactly the tool I needed.
-
A recent thing I've been working on in #CityEngine is consolidating the more generic #python tools I have into a user friendly set of scripts with an nicer interface. I am only occasionally good at python coding so producing something like this that actually works I am pretty proud of! #GIS #geodesign #geography #urban #architecture

What I still find interesting about working with #CityEngine is just how many non-urban & #geographical related professions/academics are interested in using it... example: a relatively local university I am going to training at: is it their Architecture or urban schools? Nope. Environmental Sciences....
-
First the functionality and workflows, then I will try and make all of this look nice. Custom #CityEngine GUI tools for my projects coming along really nicely (i.e. they work not that they look pretty!) #GIS #Geodesign

Hurrrah! one company has booked 4 2-day #ArcGIS #CityEngine training sessions. Not the biggest booking I've had but definitely up there. #GIS #Planning #UrbanDesign

Working on a #CityEngine thing or two...

CW: Simple CityEngine screen capture and minor rambling about code.
Currently headscratching my new #cityengine project's streetscape UVs. Not my strong point UVs and 'scope' always! However a top tip in #cityengine is to figure out those initial building blocks and foundations of code. Because it's much harder to change things 1000lines on of code 😂

CW: Image of #CityEngine demo project
Here's an image from my 'Howgill City' demo #CityEngine project. Lots of rules for small and large geometries here. Most needed updating to the latest version. And a lot of them I would have coded differently now! #3D #GIS #Geodesign #Esri #visualisation (yes I do spaceships)

CW: Long thought about procedural tools
Some people see the procedural modelling tool #CityEngine (and other tools like it) as a shortcut for design. Somehow magically, with a bit of code their designs will be realised with ease. I don't see it like that, I see procedural modelling as a tool that still requires input from a user. Once users and (and often my trainees) realise that, only then does it become useful.

CW: Animated GIF of 3D software result....
Voxel making from existing procedural models in #CityEngine

Belated post from me on the new #cityengine 2022.1 release https://www.geoplanit.co.uk/?p=6001

#CityEngine and #Twinmotion side project... (Very much wip but help me keep up to date with new features in software!)
-
@philip I'd like to be added to your list please. I'm an #urbanplanner focussing on #geodesign and #3D #GIS and #CityEngine :)
-
This morning was deep #CityEngine automation and master planning work. This afternoon is some invoicing and visualisation work using #twinmotion 😀
-
I've been messing around with GUIs and #jython in #CityEngine. Frankly struggling a bit (my method is cut and paste and test), however the playing around is paying off and I can make some really nice tools that don't require a command line or code knowledge to operate.
-
Had an official end to a client engagement/project today. Whilst I am sad it's over. I also really appreciated working with their team and even though it was big org they paid pretty much on time was can be a struggle! #CityEngine
