My apartment building in the centre of Katowice has 250 parking spots for 750 apartments, but the parking takes up roughly 2/3 of the land, and the building occupies the remaining 1/3. Parking generates revenue. In an ideal world what should we do? Dig up the pavement, and plant fruit trees? In the real world what can I do? I am already asking for parking for #citybikes, and for private bikes.

This is quite unlike Helsinki’s first city bike system 2000–2010, that was the same as in Copenhagen.
These were some cursed clunkers, plastic bearings in the hubs and massive rubber tires. You used them with a 2€ deposit, like a shopping cart.
Quite a few met an untimely end at the bottom of Helsinki’s many waterways.
I saw folks in yellow vests testing what I presume to be new candidate city bikes for Helsinki. Apparently the plan is to replace the successful ”Alepa” bikes when the 2026 season opens, a year from now. Some of the bikes were e-assist. Even considering ebikes has been criticised by some, but is popular e.g. in Madrid. Lahti also has ebikes.
