Why is the rook considered so much more valuable in chess than knights and bishops?

I always find rooks way more difficult to manouver and thus less valuable. Can someone help me learn what makes rooks so good?

Have been down with the flu this week, and my chess has been awful as a result. Yet yesterday I managed to turn around a lost position after blundering my queen already in the opening, by putting massive pressure on my opponent, coordinating all my pieces, and keeping my king in a fortress. It felt so good to win this one!

During their WC match two weeks ago, Vincent Keymer missed a very subtle tactic that would have given him a clear advantage over Magnus Carlsen in their second game, and would have probably left Carlsen out of the tournament (Keymer eventually lost the game, the match, and Carlsen went to win the tournament). mine are queen's gambit, london system and scotch gambit when playing as white; and caro-kann, king's indian and french defense for black.

me and @Anpuankhses just finished a 1v1 chess duel against each other. i won by checkmate. and i have never felt more exhausted lmao this was such a tense game. i had to just scramble my brain to think how to win. this was tough as shit but i loved it

I don’t play a lot of chess online but the percentage of cheaters among 2200+ players on chess.com is pretty high. Unfortunately the only way to catch them is to report them. They don’t automatically check every game. #chess #chesstodon
