@bweller it's interesting that battlefields were considered accursed in myth and folklore. People used to make fun of those stories, buuuut those people have never been part of a #CBRNE (bio/chem) outfit in charge of organizing such clean ups.
After #Tohoku quake/ #Fukushima, Japan called for AND cancelled OPERATION TOMODACHI (2011). It was called for because the plains near the area were flooded and settled with all sorts of nasty stuff. It was cancelled because can´t look bad, lose face.

Look, I am just a humble #CBRNE guy. So, I extended a cry for help to the SMEs with post doc degrees in microbiology and virology. Because always check with the qualified people.
Hantavirus sp has two strains; Americas (pulmonar) and European (renal). s rule, Hantavirus is transmitted rodent-to-human. The Americas strain, affecting lungs) has cases of people co-habitating with infectious people being infected after considerable time of exposure/shared environment.

Also, disclosure, because I think is fair/due to anyone who might see it.
I am a firm believer in the basics of public health, socialized medicine.
I also spent more than a couple years dealing with mil-side #CBRNE, working along #USAMRIID and #CDC (when those meant something), going places and under circumstances most sensible people avoid.
I have had privileged access to information, given later half of that career. Not elaborating.

#cbrne equipment testing day: reminds me how much I love being the one asking the weird questions...
I often feel too sciency for the #fireservice, to field ready for the lab. CBRN-E is in that exact sweet spot.
Good to meet some other #HAZMAT #nerds from around EU! -

Someone who poses as part of the Murican "intelligentsia" had very narrow assumptions about a subject on which they are not very well versed, and that I was very involved with, to wit the safety of #CBRNE stuff. Military, but also civilian side.
They only know the domestic side transport. International escort of CBRNE sensitive stuff is often the realm of plains-clothes ( "tactical chic") Technical Escort Units and Nuclear Disablement Teams, both military entities, with expertise and authorization for lethal force.
So, when a NNSA team was rumored to be stranded, and couldn't be brought into the US (HINT HINT) they assumed it was domestic transport. Never occurred to their inflated self important mind that we provide a lot of R and N stuff to FVE allies. In fact, nobody ever had a start stockpile of nuclear stuff; WE provided everyone.
I would very (they like to use the word very) much to see how far an armored truck and their "large trucks" and "armed police escorts (visible)" would go into the sea. My bet is, about 50ft into the sand on a beach. See, large armored trucks tend to not float very well, even on salt water...

We were bored yesterday, because storm, so S.O. and I were debating exactly how fucked that reactor is.
...
What, doesn't everybody talk severe #CBRNE incidents in bed??

@KraftTea the same people trained to go in and scram/reset a npp from hostiles COULD, theoretically, bring it to a low power state.
I can't elaborate much, I used to train for that: it's ...unlikely, due to time, manpower restraints (team size of sufficient and sufficiently trained people) ...but suuure.... it's possible.
Ukraine DOES NOT have Tech Escort #CBRNE teams, tho.
