  11. A quotation from Marcus Aurelius

Is your cucumber bitter? Throw it away. Are there briars in your path? Turn aside. That is enough. Do not go on to say, “Why were things of this sort ever brought into the world?” The student of nature will only laugh at you; just as a carpenter or a shoemaker would laugh, if you found fault with the shavings and scraps from their work which you saw in the shop.

Marcus Aurelius (AD 121-180) Roman emperor (161-180), Stoic philosopher
Meditations [To Himself; Τὰ εἰς ἑαυτόν], Book 8, ch. 50 (8.50) (AD 161-180) [tr. Staniforth (1964)]

  19. The problem with politics is that everything gets bundled into a group and asking folk to vote for it means you expect them to agree with EVERYTHING.
    That will never happen.
I am so far out in left field to most people that I could catch a boundary ball, BUT I disagree on some issues.
If you make being 'Liberal' or 'Socialist' about every single cause, you turn people off.
First win the battle for the government, then give people a free vote on the other matters.
Educate them and let them make informed decisions. Ramming your opinions down other folks' throats just alienates them.
Find the common ground, sort everything else out later.
