  1. Well that's a wrap. The round over with the trim router did almost ruin it with this huge tear out. The transition into the end grain was never going to be great, could have been worse. I had to change the profile to be much more rounded and hand shaped with a sander and manual sanding.

Here's the final product wiped down with some mineral spirits. It's quite sturdy even though it doesn't have a cross brace. I think I could sit on it but not risking it, this isn't meant to be load bearing.

Thanks for following along and the encouragement!

  2. Oh yeah, the panel glue up turned out nicely. It's a shame that this will get a stain finish ("customer's wishes and he will be committing the heinous act). Its not book matched but I like how the grain flows between the panels (looks better without the blue shop lights as well).

  3. I think I like woodworking because it's basically just problem solving over and over. In fact there's very little cutting compared to everything else (and also because I'm very slow at it). The alt text describes what's happening in each step (always open to suggestions).
I've pre sanded everything but it'll get a final sand and some roundovers on the top (which is nerve racking as a last point of potential screw up after all this effort).

  4. At long last, I'm going to document what was probably my most complex project so far. The actual thing is finished now, but I somehow missed the right point in time to start a #buildlog - so here it is. 🧵⬇️

Backstory: A few years ago, I decided that I first want to build a machine for building guitars, then build an actual electric #guitar. The machine - a huge CNC router that occupies the floor space of my office almost entirely - had been complete and working for a while now, so in late 2024 I finally managed to get started.

Side note: I'll try to update this thread faster-than-realtime, so I hope it won't take me another 1.5 years to finish it.

  5. So this build (a cover for some equipment for a friend) is coming along. I needed the panel I was gluing up to sit flush with the top of the sides but it needs to be recessed from the front by about 1¾" (4.5 cm). This is an interesting problem to a clean flat cut along the top of the side but a square edge for the panel to sit in. I did the long cut as a stop cut on the table saw and then used the bandsaw to cut it square. The second photo shows how I didn't do a good job, but a lot better than I had originally feared. The test cuts really helped to get close with the approach at least, now if I could only remember to connect the dust collection port to the correct saw while switching back and forth.

  6. Back home after a trip, I fixed the "Split the bill" mode!

This one allows you to create separate QRs if your clients decide to have separate bills.

  7. This is the last part I needed to print of my new printer, printed on my new printer. I am very happy to have completed this new machine, it's so fast and produces quality parts orders of magnitude better than anything I got out of the mini. #3dprinting #buildlog #jobdone #voron

  8. The #voron is chugging along nicely now, wasn't very happy with the first panel clips I printed so found this much more sturdy print in place design to help me get the chamber temp up. #3dprinting #buildlog

  9. My #Voron 2.4 is alive! Everything essential works (I broke the stealthburner LEDs but that's what they get for being so bloody fiddly) Passed all the basic checks, sensorless homing all setup and working, just need to get the gantry all nice and square and the extruder calibrated, hopefully I'll get that done later on today but for now my #health is demanding I stop do *anything*. #3dprinting #buildlog

  10. Last night I finished the basic electronics on the #voron 2.4r2. I'll spend the day checking over everything, getting the belt tension right, then turn the thing on for the first time. Then after tests it'll be build enclosure parts, and then I can start printing the rest of the parts. #buildlog #3dprinting

  11. Bow before me and weep, for I am the immortal god of creation!
Took bloody long enough, now let's never speak of it again.

  12. Good god damn and other such phrases, why won't you go through the right bloody hole. This #voron build has been a joy until I got to the A+B belts and these bloody idlers. I managed to do the A belt today but the B belt is just mocking me at this point. #3dprinting #buildlog

  13. Made some progress today but by the time I got to the belts my brain and fingers were broken. #voron #buildlog #3dprinting

  14. Built a cube, it is exactly square and I am overjoyed with this. #voron #buildlog #3dprinting
Leaving it for today as hands are pretty bad today now and ordered some better PTFE grease to do the rails with so back on it Monday at some point.

  15. First pieces of the new #voron have been printed on my #prusamini, dimensions are bang on and they look good enough, overhangs aren't perfect but that's something I can fix as it looks like the fan duct has taken a knock so printing a new one before I continue with the long slog to get all these pieces ready to build.

Gone for a blue and metallic grey color scheme

  16. Well... what a week!
Partner parents decided to donate their recently passed sisters house to us.
So we aren't about to end homeles anymore.
Also, we got in touch with local referents in the fight for land for the people and they say there is a viable space for us about 1km from where we where building.
So we are about to start fresh, more determined, safe and within comrades in about two weeks.

Thanks a lot to everybody that showed your support. It means a lot.
    We :tealheart: you.

  17. The branch gathering mission with the twins was a success. Even with storm.
So now we have more "build logs" (see @eris I got it :)

  18. It got preety hard (emotionally) last few days. Lots of wind, a cold that afected us all, the fear of not finishing on time... didn't feel like posting much of it. But we are stil frenetically building our home and we are moving to it by next month!

    #buildLog #buildVember ;)

PS: the home has a name now. Partner named it "la chimanga" and we all love it.

  19. More plaster advance today with partner and twins.
We also enchanced our quincha technique by hanging algae with full mix instead of barbotine. It gets more strong from the begining. More work on quincha but way easier to do the plaster and less risk of flying quincha in the process.
Again we forgot about pictures. Will take some tomorrow morning.

  20. Partner joined today and together advanced a lot on plaster.
We both forgot to take pictures.
    Exhausted and happy.

  21. Not much time today. Did some plaster work. Happy to get a little better at it every day.

    #buildTober #buildLog

  22. Came back to plaster so next time we get 3 days with 60km/h wind I won't get nightmares about flying quincha :)
    Also, the solar kit arrived!

TIL: It's not enough to be the kind of person that keeps a wiki. You also have to READ it. Wasted half of the time today dealing with the wrong plaster proportions.

    #buildTober #buildLog

  23. Didn't advanced a lot today. Forecast says it's going to be windy as hell until tuesday. It's going to be an emotionaly hard weekend.
Will try to focus on making bottle briks and rest the body.
