  2. As of a about a month ago, I think I can finally say that I’ve switched permanently to #Wayland from #X11. I’ve tinkered with Wayland for several years but always came back to #X since there were too many glitches, or things in development, which made for a shaky experience when compared to the #XDesktop. Although there are still some minor things, like, say #Birdtray for #Thunderbired not quite working as it should, everything else is at least as good now.

Can't believe it took #Mozilla this long… Goodbye #birdtray, you've done it well

  4. I have found #birdtray to be a useful utility to show the status or #Thunderbird in my #KDE desktop. However, since version 102 of the #e-mail client, it stopped showing how many unread messages there were. I saw a discussion about it on the #Github site and there’s an #update which fixes that little #bug. So, I downloaded the #source and it works again after #compilation and #installation.

  8. Need a Thunderbird Tray Icon on Ubuntu? Try BirdTray

Thunderbird is Ubuntu’s default e-mail client but it’s not the most well integrated of tools — at least, not by default. For instance, some Linux apps (e.g., Telegram) show an unread count on the Ubuntu dock while the app is running. This makes it easy to see, for instance, how many unread messages you have. Thunderbird doesn’t do this. But this is open source software, so you’re not out of options. One way to keep tabs on new mail as it arrives in Thunderbird is to install the BirdTray tool. BirdTray is free, open source software that’s available to install :sys_more_orange:

  9. #Wayland on #KDE is getting better. I think I might be nearing switching over to it. It’s a pity that #Birdtray only works in #X11 as I find it a nifty configurable utility for alerting me to new messages on #Thunderbird. If that were to work, I’d make the switch today. It’s sometimes odd how little things stop one from changing bigger things.

  10. Progress is not always positive in my opinion. A few days ago, #Thunderbird was upgraded to version 68 and some of my #addons such as #FireTray were broken by it. It’s disappointing when development is not backward compatible although that isn’t always a good thing either. Anyway, I’m giving #birdtray a go which is under #GPLv3.
