  1. I had a lovely few hours yesterday morning birding around RSPB Frampton Marsh, including spoonbills, speckled redshank (with sneakily non-red shanks!), black tailed godwits and little ringed plover - as well as teal, shoveler, mallard and tufted ducks.
I usually think of Frampton as a place to go in winter, that’s certainly been changed. I might go back for one of their wader ID courses - the list above was reached in part by taking a *lot* of photos and reviewing them this morning with a couple of fieldguides and merlin to help me… (Yes, I got the spoonbills without help, thank you very much!)
Anyway, go to Frampton, see loads of cool birds (even if you can’t ID some of them on the spot), chat to friendly fellow visitors and the wonderfully welcoming reserve staff & volunteers, spend a couple of quid in the café (I rate the cheese scones), you really won’t regret it!

  2. Taking family members up to the North York Moors in mid-April (near Pickering), I will probably get one day to slope off birding… besides heading down to RSPB Bempton Cliffs about an hour away, does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for where to go?

  3. The vernal equinox has coincided with me hearing my first chiffchaff of the year. It was lovely to hear all that chiffchaffing, like a herald of winter's end.

  4. Hi folks! For the birding refugees who are arriving in my follower/follows. Check the followed/follows lists in my bio header and you will find lots of fellow lost birders. Let's find each other! I'll boost as many I can when you post. #birds #birding #birdinguk
