Ubuntu 18.04 General Support Ends, Enable ESM to Stay Protected
As anticipated, support for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS is now over — but don’t panic if you’re still using it, as this is not the end of the road. Ubuntu 18.04 ‘Bionic Beaver’ lives on through Expanded Security Maintenance1, or ESM. This provides users of the distro with a further five years (!) of core security updates from Canonical and Ubuntu developers. ESM isn’t automatic but it is easy to enrol. To benefit, you need to sign up for an Ubuntu Pro subscription — but don’t worry, this is free for regular users on up to 5 devices (more if you’re :sys_more_orange:

Ubuntu 18.04 Standard Support Ends This Month
Ubuntu 18.04 ‘Bionic Beaver’ was a bountiful release that brought a bunch of brilliant improvements to the fore — but alas, the end is nigh. Well, kind of. Ubuntu 18.04 hits end-of-life on May 31, 2023 — but, importantly, it only affects standard support. Ubuntu Pro Subscribers get Extended Support Maintenance (ESM) on Ubuntu 18.04 for a further 5 years, pushing the Beaver’s true EOL date out to 2028. Not sure which support you get? Then you almost certainly have standard support. Ubuntu Pro is not automatic but something you have to specifically sign-up for it (it’s free for personal :sys_more_orange:

Huch, #Windows trendet ausgerechnet auf #Mastonon? Ach ja, das Supportende von Win7. Ja, blöd. Wenn es nur irgendwas gäbe, was benutzerfreundlich, schick und schnell wäre und vielleicht fünf bis zehn Jahre Support böte. Schade, mir will einfach nichts einfallen... #linux #ubuntu #bionicbeaver 💾 https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop
