This is 'crumple' origami. Used a lot by French origamists 'Le CRIMP'.

Thin, crisp paper (here tracing paper) is folded and then crushed. The process allows the paper to be shaped into flexible, organic forms.

This paper was coated in cyanotype. The form I made was exposed in the sun for 10 minutes, and developed.

If I hadn't put my fingers through the wet paper it would be good!

A rejection today.

Rejections in art are hard. Most applications fail. There were 186 applications for this single residency.

Applications are days of unpaid work for no reward.

Not even feedback.

Feedback would help.

A reason. Something to build on, to improve next time.

But nothing.

A while ago, I put the excuses I'd received for no feedback into a picture.

It was cathartic.

Found out later that alcohol ink is very toxic and you should not finger paint with it like I did in this video. I definitely had alcohol ink all over my hands. I did a very reckless thing because I didn't bother to research. I almost want to take this video down but it's my only video getting views so now I feel like a bad person for wanting to keep it up.

Pattern and chaos.

Here's the crease pattern in paper for John Montroll's Dimpled Snub Cube.

And then there's the chaotic failed collapse of it into a 3D shape.

I've folded these before, and it's an interesting fight, wrestling a sheet of paper into form.

Practice makes polyhedra.

Sometimes things fail.

I've been trying to get back into origami practice with John Montroll's - 'A Constellation of Origami Polyhedra' (https://johnmontroll.com/books/a-constellation-of-origami-polyhedra/).

Using 75 cm squares of tracing paper made it harder - wrong paper for these models.

The crease patterns are beautiful - this is for a Sunken Cuboctohedron. But I've failed to fully fold them into 3D shape.

But it's OK. Sometimes things fail.

Here's my first #ArtFail ! 😋 #soapmaking #HandmadeSoap

I have a wonderful "Warm Flannel" scent, and decided to try and create a plaid patterned soap. Something I've never attempted, and couldn't find any tutorials for. I totally winged this one!

It smells delicious! But it turned out SO. UGLY.

And as the soap has cured, it's become even MORE hideous! 😂

I had no idea if this would work, but now I have an idea how to improve my design next time! And I can't help but laugh at this homely soap.
