Anna Lucasta, the 1959 film starring Eartha Kitt & Sammy Davis Jr as well as a stellar supporting cast had an interesting history.
Originally written as a play by Philip Yordan depicting a Polish American family, it was rewritten by American Negro Theater Director Abram Hill + Henry Wagstaff Gribble for an all African-American cast. After the success of this new version the script headed to Hollywood for a film version in 1949 ... but filmed with a white cast it was not a success.
