Btw: there is also the app usage statistics that every Android collects and which the user can see by dialing *#*#INFO#*#* in the phone app.
Every app with android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS can read that.
"Google Play (Protect) Services", e.g. has this permission and may presumably transmit these stats to google

Digital rights group SMEX published an open letter to #Samsung accusing the company of installing #AppCloud on its Galaxy A & M series devices, although stopped short of calling it #spyware, opting for the slightly more diplomatic “bloatware”.
The app, developed by Israeli company ironSource, apparently installed on phones in #WestAsia & #NorthAfrica, collected sensitive information, including biometric data & IP addresses

Se acusa esta app de “spyware”: recopilaría datos como ubicación, IP, información biométrica y huella del dispositivo, sin un consentimiento claro ni posibilidad fácil de desinstalarla.
Además, se ha reportado que la app podría reinstalarse después de actualizaciones del sistema, lo que la convierte en un riesgo permanente.

¿Bloatware o Spyware? Preocupación por la app AppCloud no removible en ciertos Galaxy A y M
Ha surgido preocupación por la aplicación de sistema AppCloud, desarrollada por ironSource (ahora parte de Unity), que viene preinstalada e inamovible en algunos modelos Samsung Galaxy de gama media (Series A y M) en la región de Oriente Medio y África del Norte (WANA). La app recopila información biométrica sensible, IP, ubicación y huellas dactilares sin consentimiento explícito del usuario, y tiene la capacidad de reinstalarse tras actualizaciones del sistema (Fuente SMEX).
Una controversia creciente está afectando a Samsung debido a una aplicación de sistema llamada AppCloud, que viene preinstalada en ciertos modelos Galaxy de gama media (Series A y M) en la región de Oriente Medio y África del Norte (WANA). La preocupación se centra en que la app, desarrollada por ironSource (ahora parte de Unity), es catalogada por organizaciones de derechos digitales como un spyware encubierto debido a su funcionamiento y a la falta de transparencia de Samsung.
Privilegios de Sistema y Recopilación de Datos
- Nivel de Acceso: AppCloud tiene privilegios de nivel de sistema que el propietario del teléfono no puede controlar ni eliminar. Incluso si se deshabilita, se ha reportado que la app puede reaparecer después de una actualización del sistema, creando una amenaza de seguridad permanente.
- Datos Recopilados: La aplicación supuestamente recolecta información altamente sensible sin requerir el consentimiento explícito del usuario, incluyendo: información biométrica, direcciones IP, ubicación y huellas dactilares del dispositivo.
- Riesgo Adicional: Se afirma que AppCloud puede instalar «otro software no verificado» de forma encubierta, lo que la convierte en una puerta trasera potencial para malware o spyware comercial.
Falta de Transparencia y Exigencias
En mayo, la organización de derechos digitales SMEX (con sede en Beirut) envió una carta abierta a Samsung, destacando que la compañía no ha ofrecido transparencia sobre cómo funciona AppCloud, qué datos recolecta y, fundamentalmente, por qué los usuarios no pueden optar por no usarla o desinstalarla sin anular la garantía.
SMEX instó a Samsung a:
- Divulgar la política de privacidad completa de AppCloud.
- Ofrecer un método simple para que los usuarios opten por no usar la app y la eliminen sin comprometer el funcionamiento o la garantía del dispositivo.
- Explicar claramente la decisión de preinstalarla en las series A y M de la región WANA.
La controversia ha provocado que algunos países consideren prohibir la venta de ciertos teléfonos Samsung. La falta de transparencia de la compañía ante este bloatware inamovible ha generado una crisis de confianza.

@torgo @nikclayton @deadsuperhero Just witnessed the #AppCloud shitload on a relative's #Samsung phone, shortly after an OS update. Despite telling it not to install any of the shitty apps (Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, Coin Master, Solitaire, Pinterest and Temu), #AppCloud installed them anyway. :fire_angry:
The über-shitty AppCloud application cannot be uninstalled; the only things one can do, AFAICS, is force it to stop, clear its cache and revoke its background download permissions (also reset it to the factory version, although I don't know if this is of any use). This, until the next OS update, I fear. Of course, it uses mobile data to download the crappy apps you said you don't want.
This undermines the little trust still tried to hold in Samsung—I am now aware of the terrible lag they generally have regarding OS security updates. How can I consider my elderly relatives safe with such a kind of built-in, unremovable crap installed by the very phone manufacturer? I hope Samsung will lose a lot of clients.
P.S.: contrary to some people on Reddit, I kept the notifications enabled for AppCloud after forcing it to stop, because I do want the phone “owner” to be notified in case it again sneakily installs stuff behind their back.

Aquos Wish2 (ドコモ版 SH-51C)に Android 14 のアップデートが来ていて，それは素晴らしいのだけど，同時に #Appcloud を入れられてしまうらしい。
Appcloud とはイスラエル #IronSource 社による一種の #アドウェア で，ユーザにアプリのインストールを促すことで収益化を図るというもの。
なぜ #ドコモ の端末に中国ベンダの SIM ロックフリー端末よりは高い金額を払うかというと，ドコモや #シャープ （鴻海）には多少なりとも信用があって，それが値段に見合うと思うから。
アドウェアによる収益化は，この金のガチョウである信用を切り売りするものであって，持続不可能なものであると認識するべき。
