On #meta eating #manus #AI: All the talk and commentary about talent acquisition, #geopolitical #competition, #export controls, etc. Has any respectable analyst, market/tech reporter, #journalist, commentator discussed the #antitrust and #anticompetitive impacts of meta's seemingly #predatory #acquisition of #agenticAI startup manus?🤔 Please share because I personally haven't seen any.🙏

  2. Not so fast! Do the advantages out weight the risks? Or - whatever happened unleashing innovation vs. picking winners and losers!

Quantum-computing companies considering exchanging equity stakes for federal funding. Its sounds simple, but there are REAL dangers.

Companies may face market distortions, conflicts of interest, and politicization of commercial decisions - stifling competition and slowing progress. Federal agencies can only acquire equity stakes in private companies when explicitly authorized by specific legislation. Legislation can be changed/removed after initially being approved.

Companies might get embroiled with scrutiny under antitrust laws or other regulatory regimes designed to prevent unfair competitive practices.

  3. 4/ Historical footnote. In 2002 the UK Office of Fair Trading (#OFT) reviewed complaints about #BigDeals and other #anticompetitive practices in academic #publishing. It found market distortions but decided 𝘯𝘰𝘵 to act — because of the then-recent rise of #OpenAccess. "It is too early to assess what will be the impact of this [digital publishing & access] but there is a possibility that it will be a powerful restraint on exploiting positional advantage in the STM journals market."

  9. So if #Microsoft got blocked from buying #Activision cause it would give them too many gaming franchises, then why is #MatchGroup allowed to own 25 different dating apps & sites and not face similar #antitrust rules? The online dating space is has a severe lack of competition to #Match.
