  1. “I hadn’t publicly addressed the endings of these businesses, so I figured it was time to do so.”

Jeffrey’s reflections on A List Apart, A Book Apart, and An Event Apart are touching. All three of those endeavors influenced my career, and I’m beyond grateful. It’s sad that it came at a personal cost to him and his partners.

  2. Looking for US WEB CONFERENCES.

It seems US conferences had a harder time recovering from Covid than the European ones, and the demise of #anEventApart was definitely a big bummer, but I'd like to know which ones are left.

So please let me know about good conferences about web development, in general or with a more specific topic, in the US - preferably ones with a national rather than local reach.

(Though I guess I'm not terribly interested in React or other frameworks - sorry.)

  3. Thank you, An Event Apart.

I have so many fond memories of #aneventapart that I found it difficult to write about what AEA has meant to me.

Here’s my love letter to the conference that changed our industry and touched my life.

  4. Some Things I Took Away From An Event Apart 2022 in Denver css-tricks.com/some-things-i-t Things I Took Away From An Event Apart 2022 in Denver"

An Event Apart 2022 Denver wrapped up yesterday. And while I was unable to make it to all three days this time, I did catch yesterday’s action — and it was awesome. I’m not very social or outgoing, but this was the first conference I’ve been to in at least a couple of years, and […]

  5. Dear my old nerds: If you’re like me, you’d JUMP at the chance to buy lunch for Jeffrey Zeldman. How much of our success do we owe to Zeldman?

Here’s a chance to do something much more meaningful for him.

  6. Holy crap: aneventapart.com/

I’m so grateful I was able to attend one of these (DC in 2018). Single best conference I’ve ever attended, and I was able to meet and mingle with some longtime web heroes. I still have the presentation decks and refer to some of the talks these years later.

  7. Sad to hear about #AnEventApart coming to an end. AEA had such an impact on my life. I'm honored to have been a part of it the last few years and I'm going to miss it.

  8. I attended #AnEventApart in Austin in 2013. It was the first tech conference I ever attended and remains, to this day, the most influential one. Every conference since I’ve measured against that one.
Strangely, the memories that remain in my head most from this event, are when @chriscoyier presented in his Guns N’ Roses shirt from the gift shop and when @adactio played an instrument on stage as part of his presentation.

  9. “Seventeen years ago, in December 2005, we held our first conference in Philadelphia. The event we just held in San Francisco was our last. All things must come to an end, and this is ours.” aneventapart.com #AEA #AnEventApart

  10. Just broke the news to my kid who has accompanied me on a couple of the trips and more than once has said they wanted to attend #aneventapart with me again. They’re bummed.

I think they may have secretly thought that some day they would be on stage like all of the speakers they met. What great role models for them to meet and content to see during some formative years. Another thing to be grateful for.

  11. I always thought my run with An Event Apart would end due to there being new folk with more interesting things to say, but here we are. It felt right to say my thank yous on my own website so I wrote a thing (hastily and through tears) here rachelandrew.co.uk/archives/20

They gave us something really special. A space where practical advice could co-exist with ideas, and things that didn't even exist yet. I'm glad I got to be a part of it for a few years, and I'm going to miss it. #aneventapart

  12. My first #aneventapart talk was in August 2013. With the exception of 2020, I’ve been with this crew either in person or virtual multiple times a year for almost 10 years. The only break I’ve taken in my father’s care was to speak at #AEA Denver.

I was already thinking about how I would travel this year and panicking about what talk topic to pitch.

I know all good things must come to an end, but this is hitting me harder than I expected. When the pandemic is over, let’s plan a reunion.

  13. I’m sad to learn that after 17 years, #AnEventApart has shut its doors. aneventapart.com/

I remember how nervous I was the first time I spoke at the conference. It felt like making the big leagues.

Over the years, #AEA became family. I will miss this conference, but I miss the people even more.

Thank you to @Meyerweb @zeldman Toby Marci for putting trust in me and being amazing hosts. Thank you at all of the attendees and speakers over the years. See you at some other event soon. 😢

  14. Thanks so much to #AnEventApart #AEASF for having me come to speak again. It was great to see so many new and familiar faces.
