  1. So yesterday I opened up the #Steam Workshop for my game #AFKShift, and almost immediately strange things started happening.

    The two workshop items I put in there to start things off got more subscriptions than my game has owners, and they started getting contentless comments from random people. Like random numbers, single words in cyrillic, and an entire thread of just "hi" messages!

    Is this some meme? Or does anyone know what could be going on?

  4. It's been a bit of a mental grind to get here, given the resounding (though tbh entirely predictable, and predicted!) unsuccess of #AFKShift, but today I released a new version of the game with Steam Workshop support - both in the game, and for one-click sharing from within the editor!

    Steam requires at least one bit of free content before opening the workshop, so I made a scene just for this purpose - "Deserted Workshop" 🤭

  8. Just two days away from the Steam release of #AFKShift, so don't have any fancy new content to show for this #ScreenshotSaturday. Instead, this week I ported and updated an old tool I created for a previous game, Bag of Looting. The tool provides an overlay visualising the flows of keyboard focus between Control nodes!

    It can visualise "next" (the leeks), "previous" (the rhubarb), and directional navigation (the skies).

  13. Back to my regular routine of posting #ScreenshotSaturday a day late!

    My excuse this week is that I got a little distracted relearning #Blender for the umpteenth time, to fix the UVs of a low-poly chess set that I wanted to retexture for an #AFKShift anomaly! (Spoilers!)

  14. Oop, almost forgot #ScreenshotSaturday again!

    This week I finally built out the last room for #AFKShift's full release - the yard!

    It's been a bit of a motivational slog for me, getting though building these rooms. I've definitely got a better appreciation for why many devs, myself included, are so drawn to procedural generation!

    Next up are the anomalies for these rooms, which are a lot more fun to make!

  15. I've been sticking to my self-imposed cadence of creating one room per week for #AFKShift, so this week for #ScreenshotSaturday I present: the dining room!

    There's just one more "room" I have planned for the moment, and that's the back yard. Once that's built out I'll focus on adding more anomalies to these new rooms. After that, I can hopefully get back to actual coding, which I have learned I find far more interesting and motivating than building levels!

    This week I managed to get another room of the #AFKShift streamer house done - the living room. I was thinking the train set was a little too childish, but then I remembered this was supposed to be parodying livestreamers, so...

    The room still feels a little sparse, but I'm not sure what other things to add 🤔

  17. Honolulu is my spirit time zone, so here's my #ScreenshotSaturday for this week!

    I was taken down by illness for most of this month, but my energy and motivation are gradually returning, so I'm back to (slowly) working on making the content for #AFKShift.

    For the full release, I decided to make an interconnected series of rooms to observe. This is the current state of the house's foyer, from where you can also see into the kitchen scene!

  20. It's #ScreenshotSaturday, so here's attempt 2 at a gameplay trailer for my game #AFKShift!

    I had to give up on the idea of doing this one entirely in-engine, as getting the music timed to the action was an impossible task. That said, all I needed Kdenlive for was to concatenate the in-engine scenes and sync up the music track!

    Might even be happy enough with this one to put it up on the Steam page 🤔

  23. Spent a bunch of time this week making a first draft of a trailer for my game #AFKShift!
    This is all done in-engine with no post-production, though it's not actually gameplay per-se - the game itself isn't quite so dramatic!

    I'm not a pro at trailer and video stuff in general, so suggestions welcome!

    I'm still not entirely sure about the new theme, but it certainly feels less "off the shelf" than what I had previously!

  27. Forgot to mention in the toot (though I did include it in the alt text!), that this video was the game in "AFK mode", where it's played entirely via Twitch chat commands!
    I thought about including the chat UI in the video to demonstrate that, but then that would've revealed some of the secret debug commands! (and many of my typos...)

  28. I find one of the best ways to find bugs in your game is to set out to record a gameplay video. Even after fixing all the things that directly affected the video, my immediate #AFKShift todo list near doubled in size! 🫠
