  1. Yesterday, I was officially diagnosed with #adhd and am now sitting with that to contemplate the next steps.

I feel like I'm meeting myself for the first time.

  2. I've never mourned anything more, never been as disheartened, never more confronted with a deeper sense of loss than when the overwhelming and intoxicating power of coffee-fuelled, world-beating potential begins to fades away in the late morning, and I'm left clawing at the last molecules of motivation – while further coffees, no matter the number or the timing or the dosage, do little more than offer up, meekly and limp-wristed, a pale imitation, a mere facsimile, of the sensation.

Wait, I forgot to take my ADD meds this morning. Saved!

  3. After reading a bunch of #introduction 's, I just want to send big happy vibes to all the folks out there who can't (or dont want to) describe themselves in a single sentence. 🤩🤩🤩 All the polymaths, jack's of all trades, #schooloflife students, and the folk who haven't worked out what they want to do when they grow up. You're my people! May you continue to confound the Algorithms, get confusing ad suggestions, may your bios be long and unfocussed 😁

  4. There are more chapters to come. I'll post them when the mood strikes me and I remember. In the meantime, check out Andrew Whitehouse's amazing YouTube channel and ask him to join us on #Mastodon! He's a great guy with a great message.

  5. Part 10 of Andrew Whitehouse's superb ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER. If you are #neurodiverse, please listen to this. It's brilliant.

If you are NOT neurodiverse, please listen to this. It's actually MORE important for you than for us. And it's pretty damn important for us.

"Memory, for #ADHD people, is notoriously intermittent."

  6. Part 9 of Andrew Whitehouse's remarkable, essential ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER.

Huge takeaway here. Most children -- most people -- cannot be categorized under a single heading. You cannot pigeonhole human beings. We are each unique.

  7. Part 8 of Andrew Whitehouse's remarkable, essential ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER.

  8. Part 7 of Andrew Whitehouse's
moving, unforgettable narrative on growing up with #adhd, ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER.

    "Sources of Tedium."

Possibly the funniest chapter in the book. He's a gifted writer...not just a retired rock'n'roll frontman.

  9. CW: NSFW: My rant to teachers who don't understand ADHD yet

Part 6 of Andrew Whitehouse's honest, essential #adhd book, ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER.

    School or prison?

"Outside of (X), you simply don't pay attention!" is roughly equivalent to "What a jerk you are for being colorblind! That's so fucking inconsiderate! Stay after school!"

Teachers (and everyone else): If you wouldn't say the second thing to a kid, MAYBE TRY NOT SAYING THE FIRST THING.

  12. Part Three of Andrew Whitehouse's ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER, a brave and moving personal examination of adult #adhd.

"Listening to people is difficult for me."

This is not a moral failing.

This is how our brains work.

    We're trying.

    Sometimes we succeed.

  13. Part Two of ANDREW AND THE MAGIC GIVEASHITOMETER,
Andrew Whitehouse's revelatory exploration of adult #ADHD.

Required reading (listening) if you've ever been told you have no feelings.

That bit made me cry, so I guess I must have feelings.

  14. Here's the first chapter of a superb, honest, no-apologies first-person account of adult #adhd from Andrew Whitehouse.

  15. I'm trying to rely more on hashtags here but so far I'm feeling like #adhdmastodon is lacking what I sought out #adhdtwitter for. As someone with a late in life diagnosis, the content creation, explainers and memes really helped me understand what having #ADHD and what being #nurodivergent means. All of those producers had some sort of business agenda and this doesn't seem like the place for that (which I greatly appreciate). But I am dreading going to #instagram for this content because then I get served 1000 targeted ads and it has a bad vibe. Maybe it is here and I haven't found it yet or maybe I'm just going to have to live without that, time will tell I guess.

  16. According to my Facebook memories, it's been one year since I got my ADHD diagnosis. Time flies? I wouldn't know, my brain doesn't perceive it correctly 🥲 #ADHD #ADHDMastodon
