  1. Peak District hike 3: Robin Hood’s Stride near Elton. #UK #PeakDistrict #England #52hikes 15 #FamilyHikes this one with friends and classically changeable weather

  2. Button Bay State Park, #Vermont was perfect for a low key family stroll on a cloudy Sunday. I imagine this point could be rather more crowded in hot weather. #52LakeChamplain #52hikes #12

  3. Two loops at Shelburne Pond today with surprisingly different feels. I didn’t think the loop away from the shore would be very interesting, but it had hemlocks, nice limestone/marble outcrops and cliffs. Very enjoyable. #52hikes #11 #Vermont #Shelburne #hiking #FamilyHikes

  4. The trail up South Boquet mountain was a perfect, easy first #Adirondacks hike for our family, including the toddler. 1.8 mi, 520 ft elevation gain, easy, nice views at the top. And #52hikes #10 for 2023.

  5. On our summery Sunday we explored the loop around Indian Brook Reservoir in Essex, #Vermont. It was a lovely toddler-paced two mile walk with lots of stops for the dog to swim. #52hikes #9 #MonDog

  6. Our exploration of Niquette Bay State Park was #52hikes #8. The toddler forded mud, climbed the hill and protested mightily when we put them in the pack after 1.1 miles so we could pick up the pace a bit. Because of the slow start we didn’t finish all the trails, but that’s a good excuse to come back soon. #Vermont #TshirtWeather

  7. This exploration of the East Woods Natural Area also marked #52hikes #7 - a mild 1 mile loop. It would have been much much lower key if we’d not let the previous warm day lull us into leaving our spikes at home. Large parts of the trail were pure #ice. I think there was a lot of ponding caused by soil compaction from the trail traffic. #BurlingtonVT

  8. We outlined a spectacular gooseneck in the Winooski river's course on a 2.6 mile hike at Ethan Allen Homestead in #BurlingtonVT. Snow covered fields and floodplain forest (with signs of fairly regular inundation) and only 23 ft of elevation gain/loss made this a fun family hike on a windy March day. #52hikes #6. #MonDog

  9. Our Lake Champlain view came at the turn around point of an out-and-back hike (and toddler sled ride) for 3 humans and a dog at Shelburne Bay Park. Another time there are shoreline trails to explore, but this worked for #52hikes #5. #Vermont #FamilyHikes #Snowy #Trail

  10. A few more views from Mt Philo, our 4th of #52hikes. We took the access road up and down, with @allochthonous pushing the stroller the whole way! We’ll have to try the hiking trail to the summit next time we visit, but we need to get some hiking poles to safely do steep trails with the toddler on the back. #Vermont #hiking #familytime

  11. Our hike today took place in Shelburne’s LaPlatte Nature Park, where spikes plus a sled were well suited for 2 parents and a toddler to make use of the well-packed snow trails (except for a few steep downhills for the sled). We only explored half of the trails, but we know we’ll be back. The #waterfall itself is short but comes at the end of a long glide. There’s also a landslide scar. #52hikes #3

  12. Starting from Overlook Park, we walked downhill to Szymanski Park. We didn’t quite make it to the end of the trail before turning around because the toddler was cold and tired. But 1.8 miles round trip in below freezing temperatures is enough for us to call this one of 2023’s #52hikes.

  13. This is also the first hike of my family’s 3rd attempt at the #52hikes challenge. Here are a few more views from Red Rocks Park, South #burlingtonvt.
