We went from pretty complete ice cover on Tuesday to wet around the edges on Wednesday to patchy partial ice Thursday to no ice today. #Spring has come to the #Adirondacks and #LakeChamplainBasin.

Below Winooski Falls (https://mastodon.online/@annejefferson/109735003170787948) the Winooski #River takes a very #sinuous #meandering course to Lake Champlain. From this photo to the mouth of the river is 4.6 km straight line, but 8.9 as the river flows. Lots of floodplain forest, farmland, and wetlands are preserved along its course thanks to their periodic inundation & #Vermont's sensible land use practices. #52LakeChamplain #BurlingtonVT

A bit late with this week’s #52LakeChamplain view (because viruses), but here’s my neighborhood stream. It’s what we term “direct to lake” as it is not tributary to a larger river before it enters Lake Champlain. Most of the length of streams and rivers in the Lake Champlain basin (and beyond) is in #headwater #streams like this one, so it’s important to protect their #water quality and #habitat.
