When in The Hague, I obviously need to visit Artifac, the big art store. But I also need to be careful with additional colours for my (travel) palette, I've only got 3 slots left.

So it was time to finally do a colour mix overview to stop myself from buying more - and because I've been procrastinating on this for the long and also this was a chance to practice lettering with the new fountain pen, this counts as number 6 entry in #52ArtWeeks.

I keep reminding myself that cute building sketches should not be confined to holidays - especially if you live in a place as picturesque as #Leiden (but I also firmly believe that you can find interesting views pretty much everywhere).

More hardcore weekending: got myself a Pilot Kaküno in EF and loving it so far for inking.

Now need to get off the couch to get these some colour into these so that they can befome entry 4 & 5 in #52ArtWeeks.

(Bags are a mix if random online reference and my imagination, the gate is from a photo fron #Leiden city centre.)

Birthday card for a dear friend (who likes doing pottery). This one was a relaxed playing around with my small travel palette plus some sparkly colours.

Trying to focus on the progress and not on the fact that I'm terribly behind on the #52ArtWeeks project - this is entry #3.

A bit late on last week's #52ArtWeeks, the heat kinda got to me and I was only able to run this through the render pipeline today, but here we are!

Last week I decided to try get into some proper shading action! And I gotta say, this turned out quite good! I refined a basic plume shader concept and now just have a few edge cases to sort out and got to make some first surface materials with a bit more realism than "flat color", which is quite exiting! I'm getting more ideas as to what I could do in the future, looking forward to it!

And of course this is the second entry in #52ArtWeeks - I considered listing these ad three entries as three separate paintings but they were conceived as a triptych that belongs together, so it would feel dishonest to do so evwn though each of them was a significant amount of work and time.

This week in #52ArtWeeks:
I made a simple-ish Reaction Control System Cluster, put an actual night sky HDRI as the world background, messed around some more with geometry nodes and got shaders to work (yaaay), yanked some plume shaders from an open library from the #ToughSF community and here we are:
I am happy-ish with this, just kinda wish the plumes were a bit simpler, I'm still doing research on this tough. In the meantime, here's one second of the animation, because I forgot to switch my renderer to my GPU before rendering…

In other news, Microsoft aparently wants 1€ for you to play HVEC(or libx265)-videos. What the actual.
(Yes I render on Windows because Blender under Linux doesn't recognize my GPU)

*lol* partner's father (possibly unsurprisingly 🤣) liked the painting, so I quickly used a second hand frame and some yellow paper so he can hang it in his workshop to make himself hungry 🍳

First entry in #52ArtWeeks - late, but I started!

Not all experiments work out, but I learned a lot with this one:

- the brown liner disappears! I can't rely on it holding the drawing together as much as black liner.
- I absolutely need a daylight lamp on my desk
- not sure the small color palette is good for food pics (it's amazing for urban sketches)...
- bacon (&thibgs with a lot of color variation) is hard, especially on postcards!

So… Maybe I forgot about this and started a week late and maybe that week was a bit stressful… but here I am, I'm doing 3D-stuff again :)

This is more of a warmup model but I'm okay with how this turned out.

And holy blender has added some new stuff since I was gone, apparently I can now delete all my rotational array markers, hooray!

In other news, why can't I apply a shader to an object that I made with geonodes? Blender moment time I guess…

You can define what art & when your 52 weeks run. Mine are 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027. And I want to focus on the watercolour paintings, not on the digital doodles.
