Grief is OK after figuring out you’re autistic
It is okay to feel grief over figuring out you're Autistic as an adult.
A period of mourning is healthy.
I felt a lot of things. Some of them conflicting or confusing. I felt relief at finally figuring out what was going on, and gratitude I wasn't subjected to ABA, and hope for the future, and, yes, grief.
Grief at what might have been, and the life that I could have had, if I had known, and if that was accepted and supported. I found it was important to sit with that grief and let it be. And eventually it wasn't so overwhelming anymore. Sometimes I still get a wave of it, and I know it'll pass if I let it be.
A later identification isn't a one emotion experience. It's okay for it to be complicated and challenging. Life is complicated and challenging.
And you'll get through this and be in a better position to make positive changes in your life afterwards.
Something I learned in my later-life Autism diagnosis journey: I'm not broken, I’m wired differently than the neuromajority. And that’s okay. That’s great. That’s wonderful. We need people who are different. We’re all different anyway.

Day 25 of #Arttrober is Katsuragi Misato of Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Evangelion was an anime that was evangelised to me a little too heavily, leading me to decide not to watch it. While I would like to think that I'm mature enough to be beyond such contrariness now, it nevertheless remains the case that I have not watched Evangelion.
Hmm. I seem to struggle with dark hair. Not my best work.

„Te zmiany czasu, szczególnie zimą, to jest fajna sprawa” – tak sobie wczoraj pomyślałem.
Dzisiaj (znaczy jutro, bo myślałem przecież w piątek) mam jechać na Audio-Video-Show do Warszawy.
Rano o 6, pociągiem, a to jeszcze noc.
Taka niespodzianka od wszechświata, pośpię godzinę dłużej!
Już wieczorem, przezornie, przestawiłem sobie zegar (ten, co mi wisi na wprost łóżka) o godzinę w tył, i poszedłem spać, żeby rano w nocy wstać.
Kiedy się przebudziłem, na zegarze była 4. „O, to mam jeszcze godzinę kimania” – po spojrzeniu jednym okiem pomyślałem półprzytomny.
Godzinę później zerwałem się już raźno, przecież już 5 rano. Wstałem, spojrzałem na telefon… i już wiedziałem: pociągiem tam dzisiaj nie pojadę.
Była 6.
OK, spoko, no to jadę autem.
Mam dwa, to pierwsze „primary” co prawda musiałem w trybie emergency zostawić „na mieście”.
No, była konieczność wypicia wódki w celu ratowania życia lub zdrowia psychicznego. Może tylko to trzy kieliszki, ale jednak, wróciłem więc taksówką.
O 6.30 wsiadłem w to drugie auto „zapasowe”. I wtedy zobaczyłem, że jest niezatankowane.
Gdyż jakie auto jest najlepsze? Służbowe… albo taty.
Ale to nadal nie problem, przecież stację benzynową mam zaraz obok, niedaleko w lasku.
Kiedy tam zajechałem, była nieczynna… „Hmm, są jeszcze takie niecałodobowe?” – zadumałem zdumiony.
Cóż, widocznie tak, ale to nadal nic, bo kolejna jest na szczęście tylko 15 km dalej. Wystarczy przejechać przez okoliczne lasy. Styknie.
Kiedy jechałem przez te lasy, cóż… nie stykło. Zatrzymałem się podczas tych mgieł, kiedy ranne wstają zorze, gdzieś na leśnym poboczu.
Od razu złapałem za telefon, by wezwać odsiecz, i też od razu dotarło do mnie, że jest to ten jeden odcinek drogi w całej wschodniej Europie, gdzie na całej długości… mój operator nie świadczy mi zasięgu.
A na tym Audio Show – to mówicie, że fajnie?
Acha, i przypominam: zmiana czasu jutro.
