@brian_gettler In 1985 at the #McMaster #Chemistry Department, I was one of three inaugural recipients of Graduate Research Fellowships from the #Xerox Research Centre of Canada. The other two were Chemical Engineering PhD students, possibly in Alberta. My understanding was that this was to ‘experiment’ with university-industry graduate research partnerships that are still popular in the #UnitedStates. The Xerox program no longer exists, and neither does the XRCC itself. Sad.

I wish we had something like this in the US, but I can't see it happening. US readers LOVE books, libraries and bookstores. But except for a few famous standouts, they really don't give two shits about the people that write books. -
Other #underappreciated #professionals who keep the world running include #SocialWorkers, #secretaries, #nurses, and #PublicSchool #teachers.
(Now what do these all have in common, besides being #undervalued? Could it be that the front line jobs in these #professions are mostly staffed by #WOMEN ?)

De tous les endroits en Ontario je sais qu’on est pas les moins biens servi et je suis content de l’effort de la TPL pour un catalogue francophone. Mais.. on a beaucoup plus de ebooks sur BanQ ou sur la bibliothèque des Amériques (que j’ai juste appris l’existence ce matin!)

However, #Chiac is not Acadian French (but a patois of #Acadian #French with many English and Mi'kmaq loanwords). P'Tit Belliveau is from #NovaScotia, whereas $Chiac is typically spoken in a part of #NewBrunswick.
