Well, this is adorable. About 15,000 years ago, someone decided to start making clay beads to make something pretty. Not baked, but sun-dried, and it was such a hit people kept making them.

Hot out of the kiln: Serpentine Hanukkah menorah. This is the first menorah make of 2026. I really like how this turned out with the blue and red underglaze transfer. The red area is for the shamash candle. And I'm thrilled that the candles fit into my weirdo candleholders that I made from the clay holes.

It took me forever to post the #glaze test results, but here they are! It's hard to see due to the harsh shadows, but I'm particularly pleased with the one in the upper right hand corner with warm 60s/MCM tones.

It's almost time for the little village to come into the house for the winter, but it's so fun to come home and see it under the blueberry bushes on my walk to the back door.
The houses were made by Ripple Pottery in Rumney, NH. The other accessories are from a local garden center.

This is a legacy of one of my 'enthusiasms'. It is a type of everyday porcelain known as ironware. This example is a breakfast tea cup and saucer — the popularity of the designs resulted in a bewildering variety of product variations, down to a honey jar and toast rack. This pattern is called Fruit Basket and was sold mostly from the 1940's to the 1960's.
It was made in Staffordshire, England by Mason, alongside what was then a vast pottery complex.
I must get into the habit of using the items I have, rather than storing them.

I used to babysit for a woman who spoke Quechua when I lived in Oakland, California 20 years ago. This musician’s voice reminds me of Kate Bush with its wild inflections, but she sounds even closer to nature and more bird-like. Everything about this is beautiful—the music, the #CulturalPreservation, Carpio’s energy and photogenic radiance.
