Der Leiter der UNEP, Klaus #Töpfer vor 24 Jahren: Es sei wichtig, die Treibhausgase zu reduzieren, aber auch Deiche zu bauen. Die Erwärmung sei das ernsthafteste Umweltproblem und beginne, das Leben auf der Erde zu ändern. Er hoffe, die Konferenz werde Regeln für eine Reduktion der Treibhausgase aufstellen: "Wir sprechen hier über nichts weniger als eine Änderung der industriellen Revolution zu umweltfreundlichen Energien." Er blieb leider ungehört.
