  1. The LLM for Aviz' Network Copilot is self-hosted and only needs a single GPU! In these days where everything is moving to cloud-only, this is refreshing! #NFD38 #NetworkCopilot

  2. @aconaway Data sources that are known-good. In the days of LLM, this distinction often needs to be made. #NFD38

  3. For those who don't know, I'm a remote delegate for Networking Field Day 38 for the next two days. I •really• recommend tuning in, but if it's not you're thing, it's best to just ignore anything I'm putting out with the #NFD38 hashtag.

  4. Aviz' Network Copilot seems like the perfect name for an AI-driven model for SONiC. Microsoft365 and SONiC both came out of Microsoft and we all see where they're going with Copilot. I •do• like that they're ensuring that a human is kept the loop. #NFD38 #SONiC #Copilot

  5. Networking Field Day 38 begins with Aviz Networks. They're bringing some cool AI/SONiC stuff to the table. Tune in and see! #NFD38 linkedin.com/video/live/urn:li

  6. Sitting in the middle of a Provincial Park and contemplating Networking Field Day 38 tomorrow. There are two presenters that I need to do a bit more research on. Once that's done, I need to put on my serious glasses and activate the Starlink. Almost ready... #NFD38

  7. Charles has figured out that we only shush him when he barks in the house and that barking in the yard is acceptable. Now he's manipulating us (okay, me) into letting him out any time he hears a noise outside so that he can go bark at it with impunity. #CorgiLife

  8. Charles is the essence of the proper attitude toward Monday mornings in a heat wave. (43° with humidity factored in! Gah!) Alas, as much as I want to emulate the example he’s setting with his bold and principled stance, there’s work to do. Sigh. #CorgiLife

  9. 19 hours until I can submit my on-line Czech-in for my flight to Prague. #MTPC #GetTheeToAPunnery

  10. @jima And pretty graphs on a web-based #SPoG. Mustn’t forget those. (Edit: I am •totally• yoinking the phrase “Buzzword Compliance” for today’s #PhraseOfTheDay. 🙂)

  11. Trying to get a Cisco ATA191-MPP connected to a #Microsoft #Teams SIP Gateway and it won’t authorize. It’s a supported device on a supported service, but support replies with “not in scope.” I suspect they don’t get what “supported” actually means. #BangHeadHere

  12. Okay, I got a bit ranty with @[email protected] when I found out that the C9500-24X Network Essentials license doesn’t have VRRP enabled. This was premature. Looking at the data sheet, Network Essentials •does• include VRRP. Now to call TAC and find out why it’s not there. #BangHeadHere #X

  13. Someone just referred to Cybersecurity Awareness Month as “Cyber Month” and I’m (once again) shaking my head. Cyber by itself has nothing to do with security, crypto by itself has nothing to do with currency, &c. Prefixes are essentially adjectives. It’s like saying “red” and expecting people to assume the thing we’re describing. #Peeve

  14. Went to pick up my mother-in-law from Niagara Falls Airport last night and tried to get on their guest wireless network to check flight status. Apparently I need to provide all kinds of private information to do so, need to give the email of someone else to approve the request, •and• will receive access information by email or SMS. I think the #NFTA folks may be missing the point of my wanting to get onto the guest wireless in the first place.

  15. Who keeps me up labbing out an idea for DoH/DoT filtering until 2am the night before I fly out on a European vacation? My boss. That’s who. I anticipate that he’ll want me to write it up on the plane too. #PerilsOfSelfEmployment #Labbing #NetEng #InfoSec

  21. Completed day two of teaching my first @mikrotik #MTCNA class. It was a lot of fun, I had great students, and I’m completely exhausted. T-15h until the final day begins.

Pro tip: Indian food for lunch is not a good idea if one wants to keep a good pace in the afternoon. I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s looking for a nap right now.

  22. @Wifiwits I don’t think it was ever cheaper… at least not at scale. It has the questionable benefit of outsourcing the responsibility for maintaining servers and their lifecycles, for a price. The “infrastructure as code” angle has some attraction for those large organizations in the top 1% too… and this is where it’s more cost-effective. For everyone else who has convinced themselves that their 250-user mid-market business should run like Google? Reality is starting to make itself apparent. This is why cloud is better viewed as an abstraction than it is as a service. #Cloud #OnPremises #Migration #Abstraction

  23. Personal resolution: I •need• to remember to double check the hotel room before I leave. I just spent a fair bit of cash replacing the power brick and MagSafe cable for my MacBook Air after leaving it plugged into the wall… or so I thought. New personal resolution: I need to remember to check •every• little pocket in my backpack before ordering new stuff. Ah well, now I have a spare adapter to keep at my desk. #Bonehead

  24. Hmm. Playing with #vrnetlab and decided to redeploy the @mikrotik CHR using an Alpine base rather than the default Ubuntu base. Container weighs in at just over 200MB rather than close to a GB and spins up much faster. More tuning of these VM containers is definitely in the cards. #NetEng

  25. I recall a discussion at #NFD31 where “Should Enterprise Networks Run Like Service Provider Networks?” was the core premise. There’s a lot of discussion to be had there… but with this news, the idea of treating Internet traffic as a payload, isolated from the control network worth considering. blog.talosintelligence.com/sta
