Thanks to everyone who reblogged my photo yesterday. Most kind & unexpected. I’ve taken so many photos of my local beach, I thought I’d share a few more. It still amazes me how the same place can look and feel so different depending on the time of day, time of year, the weather, the light. I guess we’re all just trying to capture light in some way. Quite a dull morning for our #dog walk today.
The tall #trees towards the left are called the #memory trees (or The #Memories). They are exotic species which were brought to the estate as saplings by visitors in the 1800 and early 1900s.
Towards the right is the #Cromarty #Firth and the #Black #Isle.

There’s an Indian restaurant in Portree. Our love as a nation for food from the subcontinent is great. When it first arrived here it was a delicacy too expensive for ordinary people. Indian recipes first appeared in Scottish recipe books in the late 18th C. Well-travelled Scots brought recipes back from trips to India, including the Barkly of Mount Eagle family from Ross and Cromarty. Their 1820s recipe book contains recipes for chicken curry, curried soups and curry powder.

Last night, the Aurora appeared over the north of Scotland. An almost full moon and plenty of cloud made photography conditions fairly difficult, but that’s part of the fun of Aurora photography. This shot looks north from the Black Isle towards the Cromarty Firth and Easter Ross.
