  1. Hype for the Future 73D: L’Anse aux Meadows

Introduction The Vikings and the associated settlements, though largely identified as having originated within the region now known as Northern Europe and Scandinavia, have since expanded from the modern nations of Norway and Sweden east into Finland and Russia, though only barely so, but more importantly, south and west into Denmark, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, and, finally, Newfoundland. Old World or New World? Prior to 1492, the regions that the Vikings had settled […]

  6. Fairburn Tower - very interesting #DoorsOpen visit. Self-catering property restored and owned by @landmarktrust #Scotland #RossShire

  7. Rogie Falls on the Black Water near Contin for #WaterfallWednesday

Being on one of the two main routes to #Inverness from home in #Skye we are very lucky to be able to "pop in" now and then when passing. The suspension footbridge across the water makes for superb views, but only if you don't mind the swaying and wobbling as you cross 🙂

A series of footpaths wind through the forest, the dog approves...

  8. Statue commemorating the Highland drovers at Dingwall.

This sculpture is one of my favourites. Today it was looking particularly stunning as it was caught in the light of the low, early morning winter sun.

You can read more about the sculpture and find out more about the Highland drovers at:

  9. What an absolutely glorious morning walking from Dingwall this morning. Cold, with lots of ice and snow but a clear sky with a golden winter sun climbing over the Black Isle.

I was delighted to have caught the sunlight on the river Conon/Cromarty Firth in the middle of the photo.

  10. Morning fog over Conon Bridge

A late photo today. It was taken on my dog walk this morning. It wasn't until I was looking at it before posting that I realised that some of the trees round this field and the lower field still have their leaves.

This is one of the entrances to the stubble field I've been sharing in previous weeks. Sadly, it has now been poughed, so back to the woodland walks for us.

  11. @BylinesScotland I know you mentioned this was something you ran from FB and Twitter, but please don't forget Dr Elizabeth Ross from Tain, Ross-Shire.

She graduated in medicine, from Glasgow uni in 1901.
After working as a local GP, she left for Iran in 1907.

She died in 1917 in Serbia, of typhus, where she was working as a doctor.

  12. What a fantastic morning. After all the fog and rain of the last week its lovely to see Conon Bridge and the Black Isle in all their glory. And yes, our dog managed to photobomb the picture.

    Taken from Brahan estate.

  13. I've just realised I can include more than one photo at a time 🤦‍♀️ .
More photos from our #dog #walk this morning. These are looking from #Brahan across to the #Cromarty #Firth and the #Black #Isle. And the other photo is a wee bit of mist above #CononBridge
