  1. Rather than drill holes in the shifter frame I whipped together a quick little 3d printed tool to remove the bolt that holds the "guts" of shifter in place (rough edges from needle nose plier attempt). Now I have easy access to destroy the little latch and turn this into a dropper actuator.

  2. Was playing around with the left shifter, er, brifter, and found a little ratchet that seems to hold cable after shifting. This reddit post verifies that's the one to remove to convert shifter into a dropper control. They take it apart, while they also have link to YT video of a guy who drilled holes in assembly in order to disassemble and remove the part.
I've converted my gravel bike to a 1x11 and had been thinking of buying a left shifter specifically made for controlling dropper (& hydraulic brake), but hit upon idea that this might be possible instead.

    These are pretty fascinating mechanisms.

Searchin' in the sun for another overload
I hear you singin' in the wire, I can hear you through the whine

    Phone mounts, 3 tries!

Quadlock: First off I really like the mechanism. I paid for magsafe/wireless charge option and it didn't charge at all or was amazingly slow. Support blamed it on Apple, which is bs. My hypothesis is the "personalize" feature (add colored ring) requires slightly thicker case, which reduces effectivenes of inductive charging.

Maus: nice but a few times it didn't fully latch and phone fell off after riding for a while.

Peak Design: mechanism like Maus but more metal parts and better design, great case, has bonus charge jack dust flap.

I only use this on gravel bike, handy for taking quick photos (which I always do) and referencing maps.

I got a Garmin Varia a couple years ago when I started more gravel/road biking. My hearing/attention not being as good it is an early heads up for approaching vehicles and has been great for that (also changes light pattern). I paid extra for video version, mostly out of curiosity. There's two video recording modes: all of the time, and when radar detects something. It's 1080p or 720p, audio optional. It saves a LOT of video, broken up into a fixed file sized chunks w/datestamp, wrapping to overwrite older videos after it fills. An "incident" option makes a file that doesn't get overwritten.
The videos I've looked at have been good, maybe if it is mounted higher the view of driver might improve (esp. big trucks)?

  22. In Squirrel news, we haven't put suet out in a long time due to their voracious appetite and lack of deterrent. I hit on this setup after realizing the birds are more flexible. So far only birds snacking on suet, although the Grosbeak seems less confident in their ability to hang upside down.
There's been one squirrel on the feeder a couple times, I think the others haven't figured out the trick.
