  1. @ascentale @bikenite

On the bike trail this week. I rode past a kid trying to fix a red and gold flag in his front basket. On the way back I saw this lying in the trailside grass maybe 30 meters further on, so I guess that effort failed.

I assume this is some figure from Hindu or Buddhist mythology, but I am just guessing. No idea what the word is some script is.

Any recs of a site that could read the word?

    It wasn't there today.

A5. These events happen to me on a weekly basis. Either I get very aggressive drivers or those who think they are being nice by not following the rules of the road and offering me to illegally proceed. Often I have had to point at the stop sign showing that I do not have the right to proceed. I will wait them out.

  16. @meganL asks:

I bought a POC Cularis helmet that happens to have a magnet clasp. As I've gotten older, my neck skin is no longer tight. For the first time, I managed to very painfully catch my neck skin in the magnet clasp and had a HELL of a time getting it out.

Q6. Are there embarassing/annoying things that have happened to you with your cycle/accessories since becoming old/disabled/temporarily disabled that didn't used to happen?

  21. @CharlesSites asks:

I have problems with the occasional motorist being "nice" rather following the rules of the road. I will attempt a left turn and a motorist in the opposite direction attempts to wave me through ahead of him even though he has the right-of-way over me. It throws my timing off, and, more dangerous, is if it happens with 4 lane roads so that other motorists may not stop.

Q5. Have you had an experience where a well-meaning person driving tries to be helpful, but causes another issue? What happened, and how could one avoid similar tricky situations in the future?

  26. @NNN asks:

I took a 5+ hour moderate-pace bike ride on Monday. I drank about 2 liters of water while riding, but still weighed 2kg less the next morning than the day before (yes, I sweat a lot)

I don't think this would work for (say) #bikeCamping with back-to-back travel days.

Q3. How much water loss is too much, on a long ride?

  31. @grammasaurus asks:

It’s Sept and days are getting shorter. I’m determined that I’m NOT going to screw up again this winter by NOT planning for something to do in the coldest months.

I’m thinking a long bike trip, probably in the south where it’s a bit warmer (40’s would be nice).

I don’t have a lot of gear, so probably inn-to-inn style, not bikepacking.

Q2. Do any of you have recommendations for a bike trip? I’m looking at Natchez Trace—what else should I consider?

  46. @MartyCormack asks about electronic shifting:

My road bike at home has an issue with shifting, I don't know if the cable is bad (most likely), the shifter is broken or if it's something else.
The road bike I'm provided this week on tour has electronic shifting, which is intriguing since I go through shifter cables once or twice a year.
