eduGAIN has relied on SAML for years, but modern protocols like OpenID Connect 1.0 & OAuth 2.0 are now industry standards.
The eduGAIN service is running a 12-month pilot to test how OpenID Federation could be used as the future trust technology for eduGAIN, alongside SAML.

That question led to the creation of SIG-Sustainability, a new community space within the GÉANT Community Programme (GCP).

At the #GlobalGatewayForum in Brussels this month, key milestones were marked for the EU-Africa-India Digital Corridor, a trusted, secure, high-capacity data link between continents, centred around the #BlueRaman cable system.
The event saw collaboration formalised between the European Investment Bank (EIB) & Sparkle, and an MoU signed between GÉANT, NKN, and UbuntuNet Alliance to advance connectivity for R&E communities across Europe, Africa, and India.

GÉANT witnessing a historic moment in Marseille 🇫🇷
This week, GÉANT joined AFR-IX telecom, ASREN, the European Investment Bank, French authorities & North African operators for the first landing of the Medusa Submarine Cable System on the French coast.
This milestone has been co-financed by the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme, under AFR-IX’s ATMED–DG and ATMED Nador–DG projects.
GÉANT is proud to contribute to this effort through the #EUMEDplus project.
